No Electrics

Hi

Went to start the FF this morning and when I put the key in the ignition and turned it the car went dead......no lights, ignition, central lockng.......nothing - completely dead.
So I'm thinking it's a fuse that's blown ????

Sounds like a flat battery for whatever reason.

If you're in the same part of Scotland as me, it was Baltic this morning, so a flat battery is most likely. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

I would think it's more dead than just flat. Worth trying a charge but modern batteries tend to die all of a sudden, especially when hit by low temperatures. John

It's always possible one of the battery terminals has worked loose.

Hope I'm quite wrong but if not it looks like a claim. It was just the suddenness that made me think.

Fingers crossed. Thumbs Up John

I'll check the terminals are all tight when I get home from work. It was the suddeness of it that made me think it may be a fuse. I unlocked the car with the remote this morinig, got in (interior lights were all fine) put the key in the ignition, turned it and everyting blacked out - would a flat/nearly flat battery cause those symptoms ? 2017 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography

When you get home before trying to start the car switch you main beam headlights on.
If they come on and stay on for a couple of minutes without the engine on it's not a battery fault.
With a charged battery the engine should start, no fuses in the circuit to stop it.
From what you describe it does sound like a flat battery or a bad connection.

I thought from your original post that you had had nothing at all but if you had interior lights etc and it then went dead I would go with nicedayforit that it is a bad terminal connection which is reacting when you put the cranking load on it. John

To avoid any confusion I may have caused.......

1) opened car via remote - all normal, interior lights on etc
2) put key in ignition switch and turned to position 1 - dash showed "pre heating". Everything else okay - satnave monitor lit up etc.
3) turned key to start the engine - all went dark. No lights on dash, interior lights. key won't turn past first position and the remote no longer opens/closes the doors. That's how I left it.

That's what made me think a fuse had blown.

I'll check the lights when I get in from work as Nicedayforit suggested and if there is nothing then I'll assume the battery is flat.

thanks. 2017 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography

Put a multimeter on it. If it is showing anything round 12v then it's the terminal post connection. John

It will definitely be a bad connection on the battery from what you have described, don't just check if they are tight, they may very well be but a thin film will build up around the post and create a high resistance.

Take them both off, making sure the ignition has been off for five minutes, then clean the posts and clamps with some fine sandpaper, smear them with some Vaseline and put them back on making sure they are all the way down and do them up...

Sorted..... Pete
