A decent set of AT tyres on the FF would be fine unless your planning to do some damaging off roading....then you can use the £'s saved to have a nice holiday :thumbsup

Okay, you might pay more for a Defender (well a decent one anyway), but it will;

Not many electrics to go wrong on that then Plus its bound to sag on the suspension - presume you'd put springs on it?? Isn't 16 combined MPG unrealistic at that age/mileage |

Ceegee, All very well from Hammond however he is of the smaller variety and may fit a defender perfectly |

D1's are almost the best of all worlds in that they're cheap, have Classic RR underpinnings (and hence pretty much Defender), lovely V8's and are low-tech enough to be very easy to run.

Loved my D2, go for the ES and get all the toys, ACE is not a problem if you keep it serviced properly and is better offf road than fixed roll bars. Air springs are a must to give you the extra clearance at the back when off road. If you are lucky you may get one with the remote fob to raise and lower the rear from out side and the rear air con for the summer

Adam I would go for D2 in a heartbeat and an ES one with the 18" wheels. I have had defenders, D1s and P38s and would pick D2 every day of the week. Ideal for your intentions and a nice place to be IMHO |
