England 2013 Range Rover Vogue SDV8 Mariana Black

PM'd price.

V Plate 1999 V8 Auto - 101k

Full service history and a huge receipts pack confirming every item. Owned by a garage owners son.

Chassis and body appears rust free (i mean literally). Interior is mark free and EVERY button works.

Exhaust has had the mid box removed so its a bit noisy for me, so i'll be fitting a new section.

Adam, why not buy an older FFRR and use that for the shooting stuff. Say a 2005/6 4.2 SC, or even a 2007 with Terrain Response. You have all the comforts and a scratch or two, who cares Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

A decent set of AT tyres on the FF would be fine unless your planning to do some damaging off roading....then you can use the £'s saved to have a nice holiday :thumbsup

I suspect my FF will still go places the disco won't due to the TR and locking diffs , but couldnt stand to see the FF damaged again so it's worth the investment for me on this occassion.

Eugene,

Firstly I don't want my SC getting damaged any more, even if its minor stuff I can polish out.

Secondly I don't want to spend that much money, £2k buys a lot of car. I can still tinker with it but also not care too much about it.

I saw this one on Auto Trader and its what got me thinking. One of my least favourite colours but as its a shooting bus, I wouldn't care.

Okay, you might pay more for a Defender (well a decent one anyway), but it will;

- hold its value much, much, much better
- be cheaper to fuel
- be more competent in the really "rough stuff"
- be much cheaper to keep on the road - mechanicals and body panels, etc

plus as Richard Hammond once said;

"the beauty of driving a Defender is that you could be simply working the land, or you might own the land - they are so utterly classless no one would know".

Whatever you think of Richard Hammond, I think he's right on this one. I rest my case Thumbs Up

( okay, I accept you'll have a fairly "rough time" getting to where you are going - they aren't built for long journeys Whistle )

Not many electrics to go wrong on that then Whistle Whistle

Plus its bound to sag on the suspension - presume you'd put springs on it??

Isn't 16 combined MPG unrealistic at that age/mileage Question Question

CEEGEE,

I've done the Defender thing, they're not comfy at all to drive, have no creature comforts, not automatic, not a V8 and they are very nickable, so it sitting on my drive all the time is no good, its one of the reasons I sold mine.

The D1 is a rust bucket but less electrics, and the D2 has more electrics but is a better car, coils can be put on if the air suspension parts go wrong. It has no more electrics than most cars but the parts are cheap. The D3 isnt cheap enough yet and only V high milers are low money. Discovery 4 HSE

D1's are almost the best of all worlds in that they're cheap, have Classic RR underpinnings (and hence pretty much Defender), lovely V8's and are low-tech enough to be very easy to run.

I've owned two of them. Both 'Conran' interior models. Both V8's. Loved them both.

BUT, I get incredibly upset when these rare survivors are butchered as off-road toys as I think they're old and rare enough to save and preserve.

The D2 works best when all is said and done. Better dynamics, better interior (more toys), better build and they're not at that age or rarity where you feel guilty about buying one and giving it a little abuse.

Sure, they still rot, but not to the extent of the D1 and parts availability is good both from keeping one looking standard and modifying one. They're by far the cheapest / best value LR product available as a family off-roader / toy.

So a D2 gets my vote, too. Thumbs Up Si. <This is my name.

Loved my D2, go for the ES and get all the toys, ACE is not a problem if you keep it serviced properly and is better offf road than fixed roll bars. Air springs are a must to give you the extra clearance at the back when off road. If you are lucky you may get one with the remote fob to raise and lower the rear from out side and the rear air con for the summer Thumbs Up

Have you considered a P38? there seem to be some good baragins out there, especially the v8's 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

Adam I would go for D2 in a heartbeat and an ES one with the 18" wheels. I have had defenders, D1s and P38s and would pick D2 every day of the week. Ideal for your intentions and a nice place to be IMHO Thumbs Up
