Thoughts and advice 4.2 vs 4.4

Hi all,
I was wondering if there are any major problems that affect one engine more than the other.
Originally I was looking to spend around the 10K mark on the car, however I can stretch to abit more, I like the idea of the extra power with the SC.
Also, does anyone have any thoughts about the sport vs FFRR?
Thanks in advance

I like the SC engines and just the thought of having more power than a NA engined car plus the sound of the supercharger. The 4.4 Jag engine is the same basic engine as the 4.2 (with some small changes obviously) and it is a pretty sturdy engine. The 4.4 is probably the most cost effective solution.

The sport is a much smaller (feeling) car inside and I don't like it, also the styling of the sport is not half as nice as the FFRR IMHO. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

The 4.2 is a simpler engine than the 4.4 , no variable lift and timing on the overhead cam just a mechanical pump on top and indirect injection . As for the spert v fullfat choice ; you have to drive both to find out if you can live with whichever , surprisingly different cars in size and feel . Oh and the spert is slower because it weighs more than the moon Laughing 2008 MY Supercharged

As Axel said, the FFRR and the Sport are VERY different cars. I have a strong opinion about which I'd choose, but you can drive each and make up your own mind. I'm talking about the RR3 and RRS1. When we get to the current models, things change. I still prefer the FFRR, but the new Sport 2 is hugely improved over its predecessor.

4.2 vs 4.4 Jag petrols. There's not a lot of difference. Buying used, I think the actual choice of cars available (colour, spec, price) would sway me more than just the engine choice. Yes, the 4.2 is more powerful, but the 4.4 isn't lacking. The 4.2 will give about the same performance as the newer 5.0NA. The 5.0NA and 5.0SC are a definite step up.

Really, reliability wise, same/same. Obviously, the Supercharger cannot malfunction on the 4.4 ( Mr. Green ) as it isn't there, but both are good. Petrol NAs are rare in the UK, so that might make the decision for you.

I am leaning towards the 4.2, I have seen one on piston heads, and was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of it or could let me know your thoughts on it

Great if you want to look like the local council estate drug dealer, wheels, exhausts, light covers etc look horrid imo. You could find yourself a much nicer sc than that preferably one that hasn't been tampered with personally

The Sport is a Range rover wearing a shell suit.

This is my logic........

I drove a TDV8 Sport many years ago and liked it, but thought the cabin was a bit small with the high / wide transmission tunnel.

It is more spacious in a Full Range Rover, having just bought a 4.2 Supercharged L322

Looking at Original list price against similar aged Sports and Full RR's against residual prices now they are similar, hence a 75K RR list is far better value in my eyes than a 50k Sport list, you take the money and makes the choice....roll the dice

^ Yep. That's why I never seriously considered a Sport. I was buying used and the prices were the SAME.

Thanks for all the replies, I think I will keep looking for a nice 4.2 SC.
May have to wait until I've sold my mercedes though.
