Hypothetically speaking.........

If one was in the market for a >MY10 TDV8, would one choose a high mileage 4.4 Vogue or a lower mileage 3.6 VSE?

I couldn't stretch to any 4.4, but wasn't prepared to risk of a 3.6 turbo/engine failure although I would suspect many 3.6's would be fine....

You ultimately have to make a choice on your own instinct.

4.4 TDV8 are better, but need a turbo return pipe changing/upgrading (info came from a LR Salesman....)

High mileage in a short space of time is not an issue. If the car's done more than 20k in a year the chances are a lot of it will be on the motorway, Very easy on the car.

How many miles a year do you think you would add to the high miler ....

What is "higher mileage" and "lower mileage"

Mick, the high miler has 123,000 on an 11 plate and the lower miler is on around 50,000 on say a 10 or 11. Assuming both are the same price.

My own mileage has dropped a good bit this past year to around maybe 10,000/year, or even less.

The main reason for my question is whether the bigger engine would make up for the drop in spec from a Vogue SE to a regular Vogue. I've always harped on about how good the climate seats are, which would be the biggest drawback of the Vogue.

Jay, I rather suspect a low miler 4.4 VSE would be way out of my price range for a long while yet, nice though though it is Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

This is a very good point I do highish mileage commute is 110 miles each way to Evesham this morning left the hotel to drive to site 2 miles rubbish for the car it is better to do 110 miles steady on the motorway than kicker it with lots of small journeys. Also in my experience high mileage cars are usually better looked after just my opinion

Depends on how many miles your likely to add to it.If you wont do much get the 4.4 and then let the average miles per year drop down and thus retain more money in it.

If your doing more miles the 3.6 would be the better one to go for . FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I'd still buy a 5.0 (NA or SC), less chance of turbo issues and aren't they a bit cheaper to start with ?? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

My twopence worth...

High mileage is fine if you know the way it has been treated, I've owned vehicles with over 300k on the clock, but I've owned them from new and never abused them. Buying a high mileage vehicle can be either a bargain or a risky business and for me I would rather seek out something with less miles or save up until the funds were there for something else

If you look hard enough and are ready to jump as soon as one becomes available then 4.4 relatively high milers are out there at the right price. Lets not forget a high miler on a car only 4 years old is still well below 100k on the clock.

About three months ago I started looking for a 3.6 VSE with around 65-75K on the clock. I was thinking £25-27K and I was spoilt for choice. To be honest I had not even considered a 4.4 thinking £30k plus then out of the blue came a 2011MY 60 plate with 75k on the clock and faultless condition. Full LR main dealer history, all finance and history checks showed no issue.

I got it private sale for £26250. A day later I'm sure it would have sold.

To date its been perfect. I saw this car in ATrader on the Thursday and it was on my drive on the Sunday. The ironic thing is I was about to close a deal on a 3.6 that weekend for MORE money. I do around 7K per year and If I keep this for 4-5 years (as I did with my last 322) it will have average miles and I doubt I'll struggle to sell it. Ok the depreciation will be felt but show me a 322 that doesn't. Also Warranty Wise offer a 3 year Gold standard warranty for less than £1500.00. I'm sure that will pay for itself. It did on the last one.

Personally I'm a gadget man and a plain Vogue will simply not do. The only down side was the park heating remote was missing. New one from a main stealer was £107 plus my indy syncd it with the car for £30. VSE every time plus lets not forget the power, efficiency and overall smoothness of a 4.4 compared to a 3.6. (plus the 8 speed I'm getting over 28MPG average no BS!)

Seek out a 4.4 and make sure the history and service is water tight then go for it - the mileage is secondary to the enjoyment. Razz 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus
