Squeaky Rear Suspension ??

Any Ideas ?

My current 2004 FFRR which is the wrong side of 100,000 miles has developed a really annoying squeak coming from the rear of the vehicle which sounds like its running on rusty leaf springs...

Do I need to replace a rear air spring ?

Cheers
Stuart

I have the same squeak coming from the rear right side when going over bumps. It stopped yesterday while it was raining, but today it started again. Some say it could be the bushes, but since I changed all the lower ones a month ago, I will start spraying WD40 over joints, starting with the toe control arms and see if it stops and what actually squeaks.

The squeak coming from ball joint upper / lower. Use some grease or WD to cure. Thumbs Up

Thank you! Could you please specify which component number do you refer to in the picture?

OK, looks like the squeak is gone, at least for the past 2 days, I sprayed WD-40 over both ends of part 19 from the photo. I also lowered the rear tire pressure from 2.7 to 2.5.

Still squeaking, having sprayed WD40 on the components identified. Might have to brave it and book in at LR Surprised

Please try another thing. I remember that while looking under the car, I noticed that the metallic part of the air spring was dirty, right under the rubber ballon or whatever that is, so I sprayed some WD-40 there too. That's all I did. The squeak is still gone, even after a carwash...

Problem finally sorted...... LR replaced the rear bushes and it seems to have done the trick... at the cost of £300 which I didn't think was too bad.

Thanks again for your help on this Very Happy

*Coughs out a mouthful of tea* How much?

Which bushes are these Mapmuppet? And is there much work/skill req'd to change them? Seems steep to me - but I'm not yet accustomed to the costs associated with the privelege of owning a FFRR... So may be talking out of my hoop! Whistle

I'd be inclined to try myself for such an amount though. Shocked

I have changed the rear bushes with the help of a mechanic friend. The 2 ones that support parts 8 and 13 from the picture. The lower one is less than 60EUR, but the upper one is about 100EUR. It's not easy to change them, but it can be done in 1 1/2 - 2 hours. You will need two jacks, one to stop the air spring from extending. After that you have to align the wheel professionally though.

I had this annoying squeak / creak as well and have searched FFRR and all over the web for a solution.

This thread didn't help me much first time around so I hope this addition may help others here.

As the previous poster mentioned, the components 8 and 13 are the hubs, it is the lower and upper hub bushes that caused the creaking on mine, unfortunately though just spraying the outside with wd40 doesn't help, what you need to do is get oil or grease inside the rubber bushes, for this I used a syringe (I had a few lying around from doing printer ink refills). Just punch through the rubber and fill with lubricant. I found a post somewhere online where the poster did a proper job on the bushes by cutting a small slit, pressure air blowing them out filling with lubricant then re-sealing them, I liked my syringe idea better lol.

This may only be a short term fix but at least it was a cheap way to identify the problem, I will have a go at changing the bushes myself ASAP, I will report back soon. 03 4.4 V8 petrol / lpg. 1st of many hopefully. I love my Rangie
