Sorry about that! Thought I might have had a 'senior moment' but no, mine work perfectly. Just tested them several times and locked them out this afternoon for cleaning the car - most useful! (Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber Care spray brings the steps up nicely!). Let's try again!

My car is a Vogue SE. Model Year 14.5 and Build Date Jan 2014. Here is my switch showing the indicator light:

I've redone my notes to hopefully make them a bit clearer and trust this works for you.

Thanks very much for taking the time and trouble to explain the process in detail! It is very much appreciated.
Your previous step by step guide was very complete but it didn't work although I did find the button!
I'll give it another try! Thanks again for your help! Thumbs Up

Sorry to drag up an old thread. This process to turn off the steps, I don't seem to be able to make it work as I want.

Lock steps out = OK. Fine and dandy. Works as described.

But, to lock steps in, i.e. turn the damn things off, nothing. Followed the procedure, hold button for 5 seconds then turn on ignition. No flashing, steps still deploy. Tried again but released the steps button before turning on ignition. Same, Nada, nothing. Not a sausage.

What am I missing please chaps? Scraped my ankle twice now, need them turned off. Trouble is, SWMBO loves them (shorty) so complete removal is not an option.

Do I need to wait for a full-moon, do a battery reset and try again with one trouser leg rolled up or summat? Laughing

Hi I use the switch pictured in the photo to force my steps to stay out if I am cleaning the car.
But to make sure the steps dont deploy I go through the menus on the driver display there is a menue to turn off the steps.
As far a jacking the car all I do is make sure the doors are closed and the steps are retracted then I put jack on the cut outs which are located on the steps mounting brackets they are very strong and designed to be used to jack in this position .
I dont turn off the steps as make sure not to open the doors when the car is jacked but even if you do the jacking points on the mounts are positioned so as the steps can still function and wont hit the jack.
I hope this helps.

In response to the original question - I have them & hate them - no mudflaps and mine are switched off

IMHO they are too slow & I found myself kind of stepping over them then getting whacked in the back of my calves. Then if you open the door to reach into the car for something, watch your shins !

Maybe I should have given them longer, but they are off now & will stay that way

For disabling - here's what the manual says -

Tried that, doesn't work Rolling Eyes

They will lock out OK so the button is definitely connected and working. But if I hold the button, turn on ignition nothing happens. There's nowt in the menus for vehicle set up either. Bizarre.

EDIT. Got it sussed. The door has to be open and the steps deployed for it to work. Only a bloody Land Rover. Banging Head
