ID these parts? Front Rear Drop Link Questions

[s]Hi, been reading some threads re DIY replacing drop links which supposedly take minutes.

This linked thread gives a helpful insight into replacing front ARB drop links which, with wheels off and car on axle stands, seems straightforward:
http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic14999....drop+links

** Is the process just the same for the rears please?

Car seems to have a slightly audible, intermittent, low speed suspension knock so intend to do the front drop links first and then the rears if the knock persists.

Thanks in anticipation Thumbs Up[/s]

Fronts are easy and do not require removal of wheels. Just put car into off-road height and lock it there. Then depending on side you are doing lock wheel right or left. I used a small bottle jack to take pressure off the bottom of the drop link and that makes it easy to remove.

For the rears because of access you have to really take the wheels off. You will also need to undo height sensor as this gets in the way. Its quite messy to do as you have to squeeze a spanner in to hold nut at rear of drop link and use another to loosen or tighten. Because of the limited space you will only be able to make minute turns with the spanner or ratchet if your lucky. Its easy though but time consuming. Hope that helps. Yep, what Conor says, did my fronts last year, really easy, was planning on the rears fairly soon, but they aren't noisy at the moment so they can wait.

Fronts are super easy though and yes can be done in off road height and only requires a couple of spanners. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

Pair of genuine LR front ARB drop links ordered from Duckworth Parts for delivery next week.

Having since looked at the part, it does seem remarkably easy to do.

Can anyone please clarify correct part descriptions to me?

I thought these were commonly referred to as "ARB Drop Links" (the 10 minute to change with the wheels on part):

And that this is called a "Link Stabilizer Bar":

The lower item is an ARB drop link, or stabilizer bar link. Same thing Thumbs Up

The upper item is one of the track control arms. It has a bush at the rear that connects to the frame and a hole that connects into a separate ball joint connected to the hub. The Track control arms are 'handed', i.e. one for lhs of vehicle and a different one for rhs of vehicle. If you're thinking of doing these, make sure you get the correct one for the side of the FF you're replacing. The ball joint is universal, i.e. not 'handed'.
The track control arm takes a lot of fitting, ball joint not too bad!! Getting TCA's and Ball Joints on both sides on mine done by my indy garage on thursday, but got the parts myself from LRDirect. Also doing track rod ends, as one of the ball joint boots has split wide open!

Bottom item is the ARB Drop Link (the 10 minute fit job)

Thanks very much for the replies.

I ordered 2 of the ARB drop links and when they arrived, got confused when I saw it labelled "Stabilizer bar link". From thereon, my confusion escalated, as can be seen from my post Laughing

The main thing is that it seems that I've ordered the correct 10 minute DIY fix parts that will hopefully cure a slight knocking noise from the suspension.

Thumbs Up
