air suspension filter

i was reading the autocar buying guide and they mentioned that most garages overlook the air suspension filter when servicing, where is this located on the vehicle and does anyone have a part number for it ? 2002 td6 vogue, 06 supercharged facelift

They may mean the "Dryer" it's filled with desiccant which absorbs all the water. It's not a filter as such, but should be replaced if you live in a very damp climate, as the EAS drawers air from inside the car you should always leave the A/C on.

A symptom of this is your EAS freezing, literally. Tiny water droplets get into the valve block, this freezes and then partially opens the valves which causes leaks all over the place. Or errors when you first start up because the valves are frozen shut. If you get any moisture inside the compressor at rest then the cylinder can "pitt" which causes premature failure of the piston seal.

All of the above can usually be avoided if you leave the A/C on in the car as it dries the air, or if you replace the dryer.

Seems to all be in the compressor box housing:

"Attached to the compressor is the air dryer which contains a silicate box for removing moisture from the compressed air. Air supplied to inflate the air springs passes through the air dryer. When the air springs are deflated, the exhaust air also passes through the air dryer, removing the moisture from the unit.
Attached to end of the air dryer unit is a solenoid operated exhaust pilot valve. This valve is opened when the air springs are to be deflated."

The air suspension compressor box is underneath the spare wheel ,it's underneath the large black metal cover (which the spare wheel bolt/retainer screws into from memory). The box also has a seal between it and the floorpan. The common issue with the EAS failing is a bog-standard valve (similar to those used on air tools) getting blocked (covered somewhere on the forum). I'll let the more techie RR boys correct me if I'm wrong though. Smile Steve
