been looking into this RANGEROVER and you are right in recommending the varta ..its got a crank of 920 btw and 110ah which is the most powerful battery you can get for the FFRR..best price i found so far is £119 delivered ..theres also a bosch with the same output.. ... - .- -.

If I remember right terminals are reversed and the battery bottom shaped for the holder to hold it in place on the Varta battery...If you ring your local LandRover parts Deparment they should carry it in stock and you may get it less than online.

Not sure about Bosch ones though it may fit, but the Varta is a tight fit so not a lot of room for it.

I used a small step to give me a bit of height to lift it out and place it in.
Some people put the Bonnet in a Service position but it can be done without.

the terminals are the same for the varta and bosch batterys and the size is the same and is a very tight fit like you say ...i would have thought an OE landrover price would be very expensive but i will give them a call to see... ... - .- -.

get the Varta, the LR one's are crap I've had 2 original LR batteries - they only lasted me 12 months each, The VARTA is the one, slightly bigger but she fits OK, terminal layout is the same, its easier if you also lift the bonnet to access height, we struggled at the tyre depot - it went in just with loads of scraped knuckles - would have been a breeze if we had known the bonnet went all the way up and back!

There are a few threads / posts on this back in Jauary February this year - if you do a search it should turn them up.

I priced up BOSCH and they came in at the £200 mark, LR OEM were around £150 incl VAT fitted and VARTA around the £115 to £130 mark for a stronger battery - think mine has a 5 yr warranty

cheers vogue...putting the bonnet into service mode is [apparently] very easy ...i'm swayed to get a varta type 020 which has a 110 ah and 920 crank which are the best specs i can find ..its the same size battery as i have at the moment so fitting it into the space wont be a problem.. has anyone seen this battery for cheaper than £119 delivered?... ... - .- -.

Varta found it here you go :-

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic1320.h...p;start=30

the short code is i1 thats what all the depots refer to with their specs - anything else is unlikley to fit as the terminals are at the wrong end, the wrong way round and are of a different types - there are loads of tractor batteries out there of the same power and a lot cheaper - but the terminals won't let you fit them unless you change the battery cables... some HGV batteries also have the same power output and are dirt cheap but the batteries are higher and / or wider and you can't shut the bonnet

£119 delivered is a blooming good price - not worth the bother chasing round as I doubt very much you will get it cheaper. You will notice the difference with the pre-heater and cold starting in the winter.

Make sure you get the 5 year warranty in writing...

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 V8 Cairns Blue

I would leave both LR and varta well alone. My LR par tis produced by Varta!!

I personally would go for a Bosch S5 110 AH 920CCA battery.

I was quoted by europarts just over £100

the battery is smaller and lighter than the original one fitted as standard and comes with a 5 year guarantee rather than the 12 months with LR or Varta!

the Standard battery dimensions are 490x200x260

the Bosch v=battery dimensions are 393x175x190

The terminals are the wrong way round so mount the the battery backward (with the word Bosch upside down) to connect the terminals up correctly. 06MY 4.4 V8 Autobiography Cairns Blue with Navy & Parchment Interior

How long do batteries last on a FFRR?

I was thinking of changing mine when it has the 5 year MOT in October. Better then than conking out somewhere in the next year or so...

thanks for that steve, the standard LR battery on mine is the same size as the bosch type 020 [393x175x190] ,that size of 490x200x260 will not fit in my carrier...also according to the spec ,this bosch does have the correct terminal layout...

btw , bosch batterys are re-badged vartas, both made by johnson controls.. ... - .- -.

mines 5 years old fox and whilst messing about fitting leds and drls it would not start the FFRR..left it for a while and it worked but with winter coming i aint taking the risk.. ... - .- -.

steve, good tip re europarts ,they stock the bosch 020 with 110ah and 920 crank and at a price of £117 which is the cheapet i have seen for this type of battery..europarts seem to have branchs all over the place so no worries about collecting or taking back if faulty. ... - .- -.

None of my LR OEM Batteries were made by Varta. The Varta i1 spec battery which we are referring to here is significantly more powerful and slightly larger than the OEM one.

The OEM batteries had a 12 month warranty.

The Varta Battery has a 5 year warranty not 12 months

Before anybody orders a battery based on advice contained in a forum I would check if it is the right fitment as there is likley to be difference between a FFRR petrol and diesel - I am referring to Diesel
