Also, apparently where the m25 meets the m1, there is a permanent smell in the area like Censored , I can't remember where I was before I turned on the ac and got the smell but that's one theory I heard this evening for the awful smell in the cabin... Laughing Laughing

The look of relief on SWMBO's face on not having to hear about how the ffrr needs to go to the main dealer to check this was priceless Rolling with laughter MY11 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - "African Queen"

Drove mine home and hit motorways speeds - whistling noise gone. I'm going to just be happy this is gone and not try to tempt fate by not investigating further. Smell has also gone.

Hope everyone else gets this resolved. MY11 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - "African Queen"

Did some highway today, the whistling noise starts as soon I shut the air completely off as I can hear the flaps shutting. Starts at around 80km/h.
I'ts going in on Wednesday morning, some small pannels will be attached somewhere under bonnet where the air goes in...apparently they know about the problem.

Will update Wednesday...

There was a thread where a bearing in the air con unit melts and causes a whistle noise ? Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

New heater box arrived at dealer this morning. It's a whole dash out job (apparently) so we were told not to expect the car back until after the weekend.

I'll report back once installed.

when you get it back just put a bit of pressure on different parts of the dash and listen for squeaks they are a Censored to get all the soundproofing right but can be done

Getting it back tomorrow and am dreading listening out for squeaks and rattles.

I was pretty wary of them disassembling the dash because of this.

As you predicted, we've now got a nice vibration/buzz from the middle of the dash.

there are some star shaped screws on top of the dash that do get loose, might be worth tightening those.. ... - .- -.

Me too on my 2011 TDV8. I have 2 problems with the climate control, the whistling noise at speed as described by others and on occasions no air coming through any of the front vents. The whistling noise seems to have something to do with the air recirculation system because switching that off usually cures it. The lack of air can usually be cured by switching the max aircon switch on for a few seconds although recently that sometimes doesn't work.
My stealer has been pathetic. Twice they've had it in to look at the problem and twice they've 'found no problem'. On the second occasion they presented me with a photocopy of the climate control instructions from the manual. I was not amused

Well, after a further 4 weeks in the dealer, I was told it had been fixed.

Went along to collect it and asked them to come out with me for a test drive before accepting that they had sorted it.

Got onto the dual carriageway and the noise is still there. Rolling Eyes

Actually, it's worse than ever now.

I am losing the will on this now.

Also, apparently, LR themselves no longer have any field-based technicians who (in the past) were deployed to assist dealers with problematic cars.

Anyone got any tips regarding escalation?

Thought I'd revive this thread to add my two cents. Had my 12MY Vogue for about 3 months now and noticed that the air con whistles at speeds above 87mph/140kph even when the system is off. The whistle continues after switching the air con on until the the next time that it sucks in more air (that occasional short noise you hear that sounds like air being sucked in). After that the whistle is gone.

Booked it in at the dealer from which I bought it and the technician came for a ride with me. He could hear the noise and after sticking his head in the glove box thought the sound was coming either from the air filter or pollen filter area. The whistle occurred whether you set the system to recirculate the air or not.

Picked it up yesterday but the dealer told me that they couldn't find the cause and wasn't possible to fix it Sad They suggested playing music to cover the noise, which I do anyway but I'd still rather get the problem fixed...

Will take it to my local dealer for a second opinion. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 automatic (LHD), Santorini Black

Yep, mine whistles too when going over about 30 mph. Only way I've found to stop it is to close the driver's side vent adjuster wheel fully.

Interestingly, mine only whistles through the open vent when the driver's side window is open!

Is there a definitive fix for this please?

It's the ram air door and re-circulation that is causing this. I"m not sure exactly why but it could be they are not resetting. Check out the climate control description and operation in the land rover workshop manual. Specifically look at ram air door operation and you'll see the correlation between speeds and how much they are open and closing during specific speeds and this noise 30/60/90 kmh respectively. I don't know how to post the pdf for this or I would.
