Stan.....whats the Haldex for then??....not sure if its true on not but the stealers told me the FF is front wheel drive in normal use (100/0) then when slippage is detected the haldex motor engages the lock clutch to send drive to the rear wheels as well (50/50)....cost me £400 to have a duff haldex swapped last year....have I been told a lie? GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

googled it and its some kind of power transfer when it detects a wheel slip, so if the osf has no traction all the power goes to the other three wheels. ... - .- -.

The Haldex is only on those cars with the active rear diff. It's the bit which does side to side lock up / Variable Limited Slip functions effectively. If you want to know more about Haldex stuff check out any 4WD Volkwagen. The Golf / Passat / Jetta etc all used Haldex units to very good effect.

All (proper) Range Rovers have a full-time 50/50 torque split - can't believe a dealer could get it that wrong.

Electronic rear diff is not part of a Haldex system - it's a multi-plate diff locked via an electric motor.

Edit - pre-2006-facelift cars have the NV225 transfer box, not Magna-Steyr,. Still 50/50 torque split, but with only a 50% locking effect for the centre diff.

Thats Farnell Landrover Leeds for ya.....I had an odd vibration when tight cornering and they stuck on the diagnostic and found the ETM motor had an error. They then said it was locking the rear wheels together (as one axle) so it needed a new ETM motor which they called it "A Haldex Motor"....wasnt covered under the LR extended warranty so I had to lay out for it Big Cry GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

paulmoran do you definitely know if your car has the locking rear diff? very very unusual for a desiesal to have it fitted.
If not you dealer has been staling from you because the standard diff is open with no clutches Haldex or otherwise and certainly no motor,
edit ; I just thought if you centre diff locked up it would make the car judder in slow tight corners but the explanation you got is still B/S 2008 MY Supercharged

Suspect it's a rare option - can presumably be identified from the VIN or by sticking your head underneath (it's not difficult to spot the motor on a Discovery diff).

@ Axle..just checked the build sheet and yes..>>

Vehicle Information
Catalogue: RANGE ROVER (D4) 2002-2009
VIN: SALLMAM238AXXXX
Date: 20/05/2014
Time: 15:22:37
Build date: 14/08/2007 Registration: V5RTE

Minor Features
Rear Axle Locking Differential

Think the cornering issue i had was because the rear axle would lock up as one solid axle (due to the ETM motor fault) which is only supposed to happen when one wheel slips?. GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus
