Not sure if this helps there is a low presure sensor on top of the fuel filter.
I think if this is faulty or see"s the presure To be low it will stop the car from starting it is a fail safe to stop damage to the high presure pump

If its the pump - how does one know? The fuel pressure is good and the pump is making noise.

You only need to be a couple of lb under pressure and it won't start! Will run all day long once started (ie on easy start)

Right Guys.

I replaced the pump under the rear left hand door. No luck, it wasn't the issue. However, the new one sounds louder and better so I'm happy I did that.

So I kept digging;

The fault was fixed today; I had a four injectors which had excessive leak off which prevented the pressure from building pressure and thus the engine starting without easy start. Having recently acquired a spare engine from a 530d for 280 euro. 240 sterling. I removed the six injectors from the second and engine and also had them tested on a professional machine. Numerous ones had excessive leak off between the two, however we managed to get five which were perfect and operating at the lower end of acceptable limits. Therefore one of the 'failed' injectors was reconditioned. Put all back together again, and now she's starting perfect. I must replace the starter because during the diagnostic period for this repair, the original starter began to give bother. This being a major problem considering as you know, she is automatic.

However;
I'm so glad to have her back working correctly. It's great, I've been along time without the RR and I'm glad to have mine back and not have to use another RR/ 4x4 to complete my work.

Thanks for all your suggestions throughout the period. I now have a number of jobs I want to undertake on her (Things I've been meaning to fix) - Looking forward to being back in the fold.

Very Happy

Mine wouldn't start last year for exactly the same reason - dodgy injector.
