Hello gents

Being reading up on this topic here on the forum and elsewhere but wondered if anybody had any experience of this with a TDV8? GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

Not a TDV8, no. Have used it on a Merc 816 7.5 tonne lorry though. It was also quite a while back too but the experience wasn't good TBH.

Ultimately it had to have a new cylinder head but the general thing seemed to be that the LPG made the engine run a lot hotter than it was designed to and the gaffer gave up after all the "required" mods such as larger rads, electric fans etc were all fitted. Cost a fortune to save about 12% on mpg costs.

Now, that was on a truck which worked hard for its living. Quite how it would translate to a FFRR with a large power/weight ratio, less stress and much more modern technology I don't know. I'd stay away personally. The TDV8 is a frugal thing anyway. From what I can tell the best gas conversions for diesels are CNG anyway.

An FF would probably cope with it OK as its designed to run fine in much hotter temps than the UK generates.

Diesel LPG conversions aren't that popular and there must be less than a handful of UK specialists that can do it for a car/non commercial.

I have seen the odd Iveco Daily fitted with it but they had 150litre tanks in the back kind of boxed in that took AGES to fill up but seemed ok. Good for winter to help warm the engine up quicker!

not worth the effort on a TDV8 IMO.

Get a decent remap and decat & EGR delete and you'll get some MPG points there. specially if you clean the intake out when the egr is blocked off/deleted.

Another good thing is a good hard work out of the engine when its nice and fully warmed, clear a lot of crud out.

Get the gearbox, diff and transfer box fluids changed and a normal service.. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I didn't even think you could do LPG conversions to diesel cars.

I guess I learnt something today. Thumbs Up

^^ @Prop, Diesel engines CAN be converted to run on LPG, but there is usually little point in doing it - the benefits are far less than with a petrol engine, especially a big petrol engine. Thumbs Up 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

Prop, hauliers use whatever they can to reduce fuel expense. UU for example power some units mostly from the gas from sewage! Maccies recycle their drier oils now, and some long distance ones have gone all veg and just leave the truck idling when parked up overnight as they are fine for about an hour before the temp of the veg drops too much, and even then the night heaters have been known to be plumbed in to keep the block and tank warm and not just the cab Wink Those are few and far between now as it only became worthwhile recycling used veg when it was cheap and really filtering and dewatering it which a little bit of petrol can help with but isn't always good long term for a diesel! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
