They're smart cars, but they can be defeated by determined drivers. I saw an RRS at an off road site. His idea was that a 500hp V8 Supercharged was too powerful to get stuck. He'd select the appropriate programs do when a wheel spun, he'd just floor it. Trying that in soft sand, he managed to get two other 4x4s stuck when they tried to pull him out.
