TD6 Performance Upgrades

Hi Guys,

I've got and love my TD6 RR.

1) However, she doesn't really have enough power for me. So, what can I do to her to give her more power? Already arranged a remap and EGR blanking. But looking to see if there is anything more extreme like replacing the turbo with more powerful and changing injectors etc.

2) Is it possible to fit the newer, better auto box to older cars? and if so how hard is it? My friend works for LR R&D and has access to some of the slightly newer boxes they don't need anymore so contemplating swapping, but we are not sure how electronics would like that etc. Or if it would fit.

3) Finally, any advice on works that would be good to get done? I have been saving for a Facelift for her, but if there is mechanical stuff etc that will make her nicer to drive, more efficient, faster etc I' rather spend that Smile As like most of you I use mine off road, so by this point couldn't care less about minor scratches etc on my paintwork.

Thanks for any advice guys Smile

I'd say ;

Remove the EGR, have a decent remap done, similar to JE Engineering's offering and fit a free flow air filter, such as K & N.

Some say the air filter has little use, but seems to help with a remap setup.

You do get more induction noise though, when accelerating.

I'm a happy bunny.......

That sounds cool, so in addition to what i've got planned just a free flow air filter? does this effect risk of water getting in from splashes etc when wading?

Thank you for the advice Smile Do you know anything about more severe alterations? My mate had a BMW with the similar M57 engine to ours and is getting 270bhp! he's had injectors, cranks etc all changed. I know nothing about modern engines TBH but didn't know if you guys knew what was the most power you can get our of these before blowing them up?

Thank You,
James

If you want even more power, Jeremy Fearn fit a kit with a second intercooler, resulting in 250 bhp and 420 torques......

Looks quite good... I'll ring them and find what they can do... Looks like i won't be bothering with the facelift then.

any of you guys got experience with living with a tuned car? any more reliability issues (I mean over the traditional "personality" these cars have anyways Wink

Sorry, posted same time as you - not tuned and higher than that. Not aware of injector changes etc, but as its basically the same engine, it should work.

Can't see any more of an issue with the water ingress and air filter, as if it comes to having water on it, the standard one will let water in too.

Its in an enclosure I think. I'm talking a replacement element, not one of those pancake chrome things you used to put on an XR2....... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

And then worry about turbo issues instead of gearbox ones ! 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Thanks guys, i'll look into the air filters and see if my mate fancies having a look at the engine in more depth as well.

I reference to sell it and buy a TDV8... My engine is the only weak part of my car... have OEM look bluetooth, satnav, car computer... was an absolute pain in the backside to integrate the new stuff into the original controls and display but got there in the end... so wouldn't change it for the world Smile (took me three weeks to take the display unit apart and fit the touch screen inside the OEM unit... not going through that again)

Thanks again,

James

Very quick summary..

Car computer in back feeding video input into video in motion Av cable, going to vogue TV Unit.

I then bought a custom touch screen film from a touch screen specialist. Opened the TV head unit, fitted the film over the screen. Mapped to the Car PC (2011 Macbook Air - as runs cold and solid state) then turned on accessibility functions to when i tap in a certain way the keyboard comes up.

Only issue is IBUS controls are not that consistent as the software I tried to use, running parallels on the mac is unreliable and i'm not a programmer. But i'm getting there. But iTunes etc works great Smile And have a WIFI ODE port apator that sends MPG and fault codes etc to my iPhone which is docked in front of the gear selector Smile

Basically didn't want it in anyway not to look OEM, so when you have it all turned off the only bit you can see is the iPhone dock i built into the coin tray in front of the gear selector Smile

Hi james,

I had the same problem as you. Love the car but it felt like it needed some more power. So I did a few things to it.
I fitted the egr blanking kit, removed the catalyc converter with a downpipe and got it remapped. I can tell you that the car feels like it should! better mileage , more power , a little more noise. little downside , with the downpipe installed, the exhaust gasses smell terrible.

I looked at removing the cat, but when I found out it smelled like standing behind a old ice cream van on tick over, I went off the idea....... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8
