Do you have to do them as a pair or is one at a time ok? Bushy

Sorry for the delay, I've been away.

Turbo was changed with no dramas at all. Other than dropped tools Censored anyone wanting to try this in the near future I would recommend taking the front pan of the car in advance as no matter how good you are some of the nuts and bolts are in tricky locations. And what with Sod's law...

Anyway much more power at my control now so I am happy that the turbo really had past it's best.
Not entirely happy with the noise as it's seems to be sucking in too much air while under load. So I think all that oil has Censored up my MAF sensor too. So I will be swapping that over too. I'll be glad once she's back to her old self again Rolling Eyes

Love this car! Bushy

Hi Bushy, I seem to have this very same problem. My turbo(driver side) was replaced under warranty but I'm still not happy with the noise that I'm getting. Almost like a blowing noise under load only. I thought it was down to the pipework not being seated right so got the garage to reseat everything. That seemed to do the trick for a short period of time but the blowing noise has subsequently returned. It really is driving me mental now to be honest.
Do we know whats causing it for certain?

Regards,
Rory.

Make sure all of the induction side is connected properly and tightly. Get a good check of all the pipes for splits as with the pressure going through them if there is any sort of hole or split it will whistle really loud. Humans whistle at around 1bar of pressure. Your car has probably 3-4 bar under load.
After that you might have the same problem as me that the MAF sensor is the problem, get that checked before you replace it as they are quite expensive.

But you must accept that there is a certain amount of whistle with these engines/ turbos

I hope you find the cause. Bushy

how would you know if it was the MAF sensor? what would be the symptoms? I maybe imagining it but it feels like its taking a bit longer for the turbo to spool up and that its slightly down on power. again, this could all be in my head though.

Rory.

Normally a rough engine with/without struggling under load, troubled starting sometimes. But there can be lots of possibilities. If you download the rave for our car, you'll see in there it suggests around 5 symptoms that could all be happening or just one.
To really test it you need a tachometer for a MAF sensor. It will plug onto the top of the switch while someone revs the engine and it will give a readout for the sensor. Sometimes you can just do it off the voltage output for the sensor under set conditions but without the information for what a correct one should output it's meaningless data.
You have to remember it's not just a Mass Air flow sensor it's a air temperature and density sensor .. Which means lots of possibilities. Bushy
