Engine not going past 2000RPM when depressing accelerator

Hi My Wife just rang me (I am working here in Libya) car is losing power won't go past 2000Rpm! Ok I said, the hand brake is off...Yessss She replied :-)
Good! when she fully pressed the accelerator on the odd occasion she has no power build up.
I quickly established the Engine power is normal as she fully red lined it for 5 seconds to test engine. Engine fine.
Looks like communication problem from pedal to engine management system to push out the rev's??

Any one else experienced this. I never let the diesel tank go below half full to suck in contaminates in fuel line.
Car oil and filter changed every 10,000 miles regardless if service light said 14,000. Never had this issue in 120,000 miles of driving.

Thoughts? Diver Bryn

Not the same symptoms but possibly the same cause....

I had a Fiat Coupe which had a dodgy connection to the throttle position sensor - when the connection came loose, it used the idle at 2,000rpm (very embarrassing at lights Whistle )

If you know a garage with the tools to read live data, I'd start by checking out the readings from the TPS as the accelerator is depressed 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Try the fuel filter. It may be blocked or failing that it may be the low pressure fuel pump.

Exactly the same happen to mine on Friday. It had a full service in June last year including all the filters. Plugged in with autologic and it showed they the fuel pressure was down to about 150-180.

It's still drivable just. I got home by fettling the peddle so not to ask to much and it tootled along fine.

I'm just about to get a pump ordered and fitted as I type this.

I'll let you know if this fixes it but from the readouts given it's pointing in this direction. 2009 TDV8 Vogue SE - Bonatti Grey

spot on mark! my mechanic has just confirmed its the fuel pump near the tank that has failed. he even came prepared with pumps and filters. relieved to say the least. my thoughts were initially it was the turbo or worse...;-0 Diver Bryn

So when you say spot on, what you mean is it was the pump not the filter......... Whistle

Excellent fix cheers for the technical input fella's. Saved me a few hundred quid from the sharks in the Land Rover dealership at Stratstone's. :-)
Problem was the intermediate fuel filter between the tank and engine. Changed all filters and back to its normal good running self again. Diver Bryn

I had the low pressure pump fail on me, it wouldn't go over 30mph, not what you want on the A1 Monday morning. About an hour prior to it loosing power on the A1 while travelling through the Yorkshire Dales I noticed a kind of blip/engine flutter/gear change hesitation when it changed up a gear going up steep hills. It felt a little like it went from 3rd to 4th and then 3rd to 4th again. Towed to the dealer and £365 later all was well. The dealer was Ribblesdale in Settle, nice bunch of people with proper old style service, not the artificial meet and greet I get down the Skoda dealer I wish they wouldn't bother 'cause they don't give a monkeys really, they've just been on "THAT" course.
