England 2002 Range Rover HSE 4.4 V8 Baltic Blue
Mistake ? 2002 l322 v8

Hi, just bought 2002 l322 v8. Is my first range rover so didn't check as well as I should !!
After 1200 miles, needs all suspends up arms front rear replacing, new brakes, various small electrics faults folding mirrors cd changer etc.
But I love it, drives great, looks great but is it going to cause me problems ? Should I cut my losses and upgrade or stick with it ? Please help, thanks

make a list of the problems you have and do a search for each on the forum..this should give you an idea whether you can do the jobs yourself or how much it will cost..

Brakes are nothing like as expensive as you would imagine and an easy DIY job. 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE

Welcome Paul, and have my sympathy as I am in a similar place Big Cry

6 months into ownership of '04 4.4 Vogue and I have replaced most of the audio/nav components, pads/discs, a suspension arm, rear-door weather seal, much of the cooling system (thermostats had gone and kept blowing the hoses off) and I still have the door mirror problems you mention! 2nd replacement amp fitted today, but the connectors were also corroded so they need replacing too... Maybe I have been a bit unlucky, the only problem I found when I bought it was a tyre getting to the end of it's life, so don't beat yourself up about inspection before buying Wink

I guess it depends on how much you love it - for me, it was a bucketlist entry to have one, but I could have ticked off several other entries for what I have spent so far!

More positively, there is lots of good advice on the forum and some fixes are not as spendy as they may first seem!!

Suspension arms shouldnt be too expensive, and can be done by any local mechanic or diy if you have the kit. The brakes are fairly straight forward and there are many how to articles in the wiki. Just need to make sure the mechanic torques up the suspension when the car is on the ground

Bear with it and it could be a good un when sorted. Each job done is one less left to do!

They are heavy cars and will go through bushes and track rods with reasonable regularity 60-80k

As a new car to you, personally i would get a good service and have the gearbox serviced too. With all that you should he set for a fair few miles Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

As above and remember the jobs you do now don't have to be redone for a while. My last RR started its life with me on about 70k 9 years later it was still going strong bit like triggers broom but still going stick at it will work out - sounds like you already have the bug anyway Wink

Thanks everybody for your replies, getting the suspension etc done tomorrow costing £1700. Should also get a list of anything else they notice, so I will wait and see !!! Fingers crossed because I have def caught the bug !!
But if anybody can help with the most annoying niggle, drivers seat keeps going to a setting which has not been set. Have set all 3 memory's to same setting, have only one key so have set that also but if I lock it for short time the seat goes to wrong position. Does not seem to happen if left for longer times.

Hi, front rear upper lower suspension arms, some knuckles bushes on steering rack. Lots of play in front and can't adjust rear tracking as has seized. Lots of labour costs !!

Oh right, quite a bit then.... it's the labour that kills you....

Mind you it should feel like a new car afterwards

Not long had my 2002, it's a bit of a fixerupper, got a couple of rear bushes on order from Dan, a few other faults to sort as well....

Don't you just love them!!!

Your seat sounds a bit weird, it's not a sticky button that gets touched as you slide out the seat???

Paul, seat will probably be the control/switch box on the side of the seat... Cheap ones to be found on the bay Thumbs Up

Paul,

Just to make you feel better, I bought a 2003 V8 4.4 in March 2010 after having a P38 for 11 years (and 3 classics before that), I paid £11500 for it (85,000 miles), and since owing it have paid out in the region of £18,500 on servicing / repair costs.

Main items have been:

Suspension Bushes (front & rear) - approx £2000
Gearbox rebuild - £3000
Alternator - £1200
Fuel Pump - £800
several batteries
Radiator and Trans Oil Cooler

You will find that Range Rovers know when you have some money in the bank, and they do something so that they can have it!
For example, ours is due for its MOT and service in April, 2 weeks back it decided that the drivers door window will go down, but refuses to come back up, and the nearside headlamp wiper is giving me 'the finger' - and I've pulled the fuse and done a reset, and it still sticks straight up!

Having said all that, both my wife and I still love it, and would not have anything else!
