Where's the Mic for the Handsfree?

OK, someone out there is going to know the answer I'm sure!

On my FFRR (2010 MY Vogue SE) I have the standard bluetooth handsfree kit, I'm guessing the same kit which I had in my previous RR Sports and Freelander 2. Now in all the other cars, nobody ever said 'you sound a long way away' or 'you're very muffled' when I used the phone. In the FF though, its a constant refrain. So I'm guessing there's a load of dust/debris blocking the mic, but I have no clue where it is - no hint in the handbook. So over to the epxert panel!

Put a new microphone in mine as everyone I spoke to said it sounded like I was under water and they could not hear me. New mic, no problem (annoying as did work until 3 or 4 weeks ago)

Can confirm mic is behind the centre grill on the front over head console. It can be fitted for RHD or LHD. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

There is an upgraded mic available from bmw. It's cheaper than the original too.

It took me about 2 mins to fit. Remove the black grill to the right of the overhead console, push out the centre grill, disconnect mic, remove mic from housing, clip in new mic, connect plug, push back the 2 grills and done.

Took longer to type that to do. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

I'd like to upgrade the mic on a 2012 Supercharged. What's the part number? Any other directions/thoughts appreciated. 2012 Supercharged L322

Nobody can understand a word I’m saying in my car either so I’d like to change the microphone in mine as well.

Looking online, it appears that the Land Rover part number is XVC000050. It retails at £46.40.

If anybody knows the BMW part number I’d appreciate it if it’s genuinely an upgraded part. Otherwise I’ll order the genuine one.

Edit - Just realised that this thread is 10 years old! Laughing I’m going to order the genuine one tomorrow.

Thanks,

can the plug be exchanged?

Is it that bad or do you just have a bad microphone?

We’ve got a 2012 with 26k miles on it and it’s perfect. We’ve got a 2012 with 100k on it and it’s crap.

I’m collecting my new microphone tomorrow as I don’t believe there’s anything wrong with a properly working original one. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

I did wonder about that but didn’t want to risk damaging anything in his car so I ordered a new one yesterday to collect this morning.

I then had a poke about in my car and saw just how easily it comes out so it would’ve been very easy to swap them. Laughing
