Tailgate window side trims.

I have the seemingly common problem of unsightly rubber side trims that have twisted away from the glass, especially at the bottom. I have read that these don’t actually do anything? I have found the replacements for £70 but I am wondering the pros and cons to either just getting rid or replacing.

How hard will it be to take them off and is there any specific technique to do so?

They stop any water on the tailgate running inside when you open the tailgate when it’s raining.

On my early car, without them, I got in the habit of opening the tailgate and moving the parcel shelf out the way at the same time so dirty water didn’t go on my ivory shelf….

Folks have removed them, can be tight though.

Thanks. Thought they would have some sort of purpose.

Out of interest where in Derbyshire are you from? I grew up in Littleover in Derby.

My car didn't have them on and I was fed up with water dripping on my parcel shelf when opening the tailgate. I put some on a few months back and I'm afraid water still drips in if you open the tailgate quickly!!

I’m in Chesterfield mate.

The strips can only do so much, there are less drips with them on, but they do appear very unsightly when they start to corrode, and not especially cheap to replace.

Only had the car a week and have a little fund of money for immediate repairs (mostly of stuff that is annoying me). Think I will replace - just hope it’s not a total faff.

My 2003 doesn't have them - at least I don't think so. I'll have a look tomorrow morning. When did they start being fitted? I'll have to look at a later model to see what they look like. Ron B. VK2OTC

They can be seen on the pic on the first post.

Not fitted to the early cars. They had a thick rubber strip at the bottom of the rear screen…. Not fitted to the later cars.

Not sure when they started fitting them… maybe 2008/09?

Does the glass need to be removed to fit them?

no, the trims slide on ... a bit of fairy liquid will help the fitting. ... - .- -.

I was wondering if there was ever a lower seal to this rear window when new? Looks like there’s a gap for another strip and a lot of dusty dirt is sitting in there. Needs a good clean.

Seems like different eras of L322 had different trim combinations for the rear window unless I am mistaken. No idea why they age so badly either!

No, as above, lower window trim never fitted to later cars, only the early ones, without the side trims. They were never fitted together.
