United States 2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Chawton White
Touchscreen Frozen Locked Knob light flashing orange 2006

Apparently this is a fairly known problem. I just can't find a post that reconciles it.

My USA model 2006 4.2 Supercharged (not sport) has the touchscreen locked up. Vehicle only has 60K miles. I believe what caused it was a new battery replacement. Nothing odd was done. Cables unhooked. Old battery removed. New battery inserted. Cables reattached. Now, the on/off volume knob is flashing orange, and the touch screen is locked with the Land Rover Green Logo.

I went to far as to unhook the battery cables and leave them off for nearly 24 hours. When reattached, nothing changed. Still flashing light and locked screen. Can't access anything...can't reset clock, calender, etc. etc. etc.

Does anyone know how to reinstate things as they should be without seeing the dealership?

I've owned many luxury cars over the years. Benz, BMW, Lexus, Bentley, Porsche, Audi, etc. I have NEVER had a vehicle more "buggy" and more unreliable as I have with this Range Rover. I'm seriously thinking about selling it.

I've owned 4 BMW X5's and they have been flawless without any problems or bugs. I even see some X5 parts on my Rover (even the battery cables are identical). I have worked on autos since a teenager, so I've pretty proficient as a "backyard" mechanic....however, this Rover is about to get the best of me.

HELP...!

Have you tried a battery reset, disconnect both terminals, touch the leads (not the terminal obviously) together for a few secs and reconnect? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Yes....did that too. Nothing. I did find a post on You Tube that says it's usually the blue tooth fiberoptic cable in the back panel left side. They recommend a by pass which usually works.

Not sure it will solve my problem but might be worth looking at.

Check the fuses in the front glovebox fusebox, you have possibly blown a fuse when the battery was changed.

Did that already too....nothing blown. Apparently, there are hundreds of owners who have experienced this same thing. I just can't find a good answer looking at many Rover forums on multiple sites. And, there are dozens of reports that said the dealership did nothing to fix it except charge lots of $ and get nowhere. My dealership here in AR is like that. They are idiots. So, I'm trying to solve it myself.

I would try the MOST fibreoptic cable bypass, as per the youtube video link you put in your post.
There are a few units to check depending on what options pack you have, those being the Nokia Bluetooth unit, the TV tuner, the TMC unit, RSE units (DVD Player), CD Player in front glovebox and the Harmon Kardon amp.

Separately, check the satnav DVD unit. The software could have been scrambled if the satnav unit hadn't shut down before the battery was disconnected.

I figured this out. Most dealerships don't know how to do this. Here are the photo steps needed to fix. Success!!! I hope that this works for others. It's been an incredible pain in the A** for my Rover until today. Thumbs Up

Since I just joined today, I'm not sure how to share this across the board. Feel free to repost this fix in whatever forum area will help the most people. Thanks!

Excellent write-up and photos, much easier to follow than the youtube vid! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

You should be able to get a replacement nokia module from the bay of e, or contact one of our forum members (baris) and he may be able to repair or supply a replacement nokia unit.

I would also check your rear quarter panel for water ingress, as that is what is most likely to have damaged your nokia unit.

Just as an addition, there is an input fibre optic and an output fibre optic in the plug, just worth noting which is which for when you come to reinstall the Bt module.note the directional arrows on the bottom of the connection plug. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Mine did the exact same thing when I repaired my DVD changer in the boot - I accidentally left the fibre optic loop plug off one module and go the same screen, thought I had boloxed the whole thing until I noticed the plug was not connected.
