Oh dear! Maybe worth a PM to The landrover customer services on here for advice if you think it's coming to that!

How bad is it?

Since new the suspension has made a knocking noise when going over uneven ground. Its a 2013 SC V8 Autobiography and its been back for all the upgrades to the suspension available, but it still makes the noise. JLR says its a 'characteristic' of the model. I'm not happy with that and have rejected it and to date both the Dealer and JLR aren't being helpful. i.e. They wont replace the vehicle or return the full purchase value.

Do they all do that?

Does it say in the sales brochure "By the way the suspension knocks a bit off road"

Go and test drive another one and see if it's the same or ask to speak to someone whose owns one.

The vehicle is not fit for purpose and needs correcting/replacing or a full refund + out of pocket compensation.

Stick to your guns.......it's obviously causing you major stress on your hard earnt purchase.

And defo give the LR customer services on here a heads up including your VIN number. He can check that all the TSBs have been carried out and maybe suggest some things. A different dealer perhaps.

Good idea about test driving another one on the bit of road you get the bumps on.

Given what you paid for the vehicle you would think they would be more understanding. Evil or Very Mad

Ive just posted in the customer relations section as im having the exact same problem. Dealer has tried 'the fix' and advised if it was still doing it then its a 'characteristic of the vehicle' Can't say im best pleased with that explanation. Sad

Joshydee,

What model is that one? Your profile says 2002.

Cheers

Edit

Just read your thread on the LRCS. So, 4.4 TDV8 and 5.0SC have this fault.... All we need now is a 3.0 TDV6 for the full set and strengthen LRs argument of it being a characteristic...... Big Cry

The knocking noise happens when driving on the road usually when one front wheel is lower than the opposite. As for the affected model .. well the JLR Regional Tech Manager told me that I wouldn't be much happier having a replacement as it really only happens on the V8SC (not true), Oh and that maybe my expectations were too high. Well I can assure you if my salesman told me that when you give me 108K your car may or may not make a knocking sound. I would have clearly told him to poke it.

Relevant case for you: Lamarra v Capital Bank. Car of this calibre should be 'free from minor defects'.
Also Rogers v Parish.
Both cases pertaining to Range Rovers.
Shout if ntk more.

I can't afford a new L405, but if I could, my expectations would certainly be very high.

If it's so "characteristic" then you should be made aware by the salesperson before you buy (if a man, who has or professes to have special knowledge or skill, makes a representation by virtue thereof to another by words or by conduct....with the intention of inducing him to enter into a contract with him, he is under a duty to use reasonable care to see that the representation is correct, and that the advice, information or opinion is reliable) also sale of goods act, repair/replace/refund inc costs. I would compare with another one, go to another dealer and request an extended test drive on your own, or have an independent report done as this will be more useful to a judge if it goes that far, they may say the car is "within tolerance" however you can argue that!!!!

I have a 4.4SDV8 A/B and can confirm the same noise, has been for all the mods they know about but it has made no difference, have also test driven 2 other A/B cars and the noise is exactly the same,
It does appear that this is a "Characteristic" of the car as Land Rover and dealers are saying,
I beleive this is a major design issue and JLR need to address this urgently, other than the annoying rattle I would be very happy with this car, I am also discussing the possibility of rejection with the dealer, JLR have offered to extend the warranty to 5 years but not sure if I can stand the rattle.
Would not be so bad if they openly admitted they had a problem and that it will be sorted ~ after spending over £100k I would expect better.

mucky,

see my post here http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic23358.html we have had endless problems. and since getting it back after they had it in to fix described problem, new ones have recently arisen and old ones come back. going back on thursday. starting to consider what option we have, and have advised the dealer rejection is a possibility if not resolved this time. 2017 L405 Range Rover TDV6 Corris Grey
