When you say a little expensive Dan lets say the motor is "as described" and no niggles.... What would you say was a fair offer... Anyone else please feel free to chip in with what you think its worth Thumbs Up

PS: I've looked at a few to date and let's say "less than described" comes to mind although to be fair one mans mint is certainly not mine so far. I might be coming across as a PITA but the word mint was used in both adds.

We'll I paid a bit over the odds for mine, but it was a one owner car and I got 12 months warranty, which I have renewed each year......

That green is Epsom green by the way, same as mine.

Don't discount it if it ticks all your boxes........and is what you want.

Ok I've managed to make contact with the seller who comes across as a decent guy and very open to all of my questions. Just a few niggles identified at this stage:

- Steering column telescopic operation not working, tilt is fine
- Folding mirrors work fine but the n/s clicks (sticks slightly) in operation
- Drivers electric seat button/leaver is cracked - just needs replacement
- Usual drivers seat squab slightly flat - replace.
- Small rust bubble on rear hatch - straight forward fix for me.

Only one that bothers me is the column operation - straight forward or motor replacement? Anyone any experience with this issue.

Never had the issue, but I understand sometimes the thread that turns to move the colum sometimes comes out the female part, so when it turns, nothing happens.

There is also a plastic part that breaks, that a member on here had redone in metal.....

Have a quick search.

Check the rear arches on the lip - they all rust there as it's steel and not protected properly.

The second set of wheels could be useful with snow or mud tyres fitted.

rest assured that if you service your Porsches, you'll know how to fix a BMW which essentially these are.
the price is a personal thing, but to fix these cars you just need internet forums like here.... and a diagnostic tool to keep you on top of most things. these are about £300.
the steering column is a sort of delicate subject. the plastic fixed nut on either the up/down, or in/out break away if I remember correctly. it can be fixed by putting a pair of lock nuts against each other - failrly simply. and the regular auto op. of the column when you put key in, can be disabled with your diag. tool. -to stop it wearing out! parts for that column come in very expensive if bought new, but its just a couple of weird nuts, that cause most issues. and maybe a worn out motor. I buy as many secondhand parts as I can to keep mine running, (not a huge no of parts changed mind you) but buy original service parts new when I can.
the engine is a near bullet proof design, but watch out for coolant leaks. the timing chain guides are the weak point. find out if you purchase has had these done. listen to engine at cold and warm tickover, no clattering and perfect idle is normal. lastly find out if the gearbox has been reconditioned, that is another major plus point. after that, its quite straight forward, and parts are fairly plentiful now for these older models.
you WILL enjoy your car, and wonder why you didn't buy one ages ago!
going off topic here, but think favourably about buying a petrol engine car (early model) with a good make of LPG already fitted. they may go for slightly more money, but they run perfect. (around half the cost too!) -I have same. see lpg section on here.
finally, if you see one with damaged doors front wings bumpers etc, these can also be found quite easily secondhand, in same colours, superb condition, and are easy to replace.(I had a bare door couriered to me, and perfect!) bumpers are cheaper still as people dispose of the early ones very cheap after upgrading to newer style 'conversions'
