GOOD ADVICE

Facts About Depreciation

1. Cars typically depreciate between 15% and 35% in the first year and anything up to 50% by the third year
2. Car values are generally lower in March and September when new registrations are added
3. Cars are depreciating at roughly the same rate this year as they have done over the last few years
4. Leather can increase your car's value by up to 15%
5. Sat Nav can also increase value - by about 10%
6. Maintain full service history as this can increase value by up to 25% This is especially true for older cars where age becomes less important than how well maintained the car is.
7. Repair any damage immediately
8. Avoid modifications. Aftermarket alloys, exhausts, air filters and body kits devalue a car.

Confused To me 'after market' means anything that the manufacturer could not have fitted - so swapping say 18's to 20's of the same vintage is OK, but that's about it.

What about facelifts Gaz - in your experience have they devalued the cars you've sold? Laughing

Nevertheless, all sound advice. Any difference between home servicing / indie and main dealer on the FSH that you see? .

Yes sound advice. In the VX220 community modding is huge, and mostly, overwhelmingly, it lowers the value of the car. There are a few exceptions, e.g. quality wheels, but even with them you're better off selling the wheels separately if you want to maximise value. Doesn't mean you shouldn't mod though, just be aware what you're doing.

Yes they have based on what you spend. You will rarely get back what you invest on a proper 2012 facelift. I only do it on MY CARS for my enjoyment and then sell them for what I paid when I want a change.

I originally did a few for profit (over two years ago) and I did not make any. Remember I am not a converter I just like doing them.

Yes home servicing adds nothing, Indy a bit and Main Dealer a lot in terms of ease of sale. Stamps mean prizes...

There are a plethora of Land/Range Rovers in the NJ.NY.CT.LI. area and I have been really debating starting up my own pre-owned Rover business because of the interest and love I have for them. Source out Defenders for potential buyers, Discos, Rangies you name it. Agree on no modifications but if the vehicle is clean with a few modifications it can increase the price substantively. Keep you posted on my venture. Thanks for the Bible advice on used car prices and depreciation. Thumbs Up
