United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Stornoway Grey
New to me 07 Vogue SE

Had this a couple of months now, fantastic car. 55k miles

A couple of pics from up on the Longmynd, Shropshire

I have a few things to get sorted under warantee, but wanted to know what options your guys have been using for iPhone integration?

Currently, I have music and power hardwired in via the cables in the centre console, but now I looking for an option to view track names on the cars display and possible control the iPhone music via the steering wheel controls.

Anybody got any views?

Ta in advance

John

Nope.......

The only decent way to do that is the official ipod connector whch is basically a dension unit but specifically for the most system in the ff, so a standard dension gateway will not suffice. Dan can supply and they ar about 350 ish, however they will do the job but if you have lots of music on the ipod the. It may be a bit tricky to search through. Most of us use a splitter lead connected to the ciggy lighter in the cubby and the aux in the back, works well enough but not "intergration" per se.

Tbh the solution i used in the first instance seems to work well enough and that was to record albums to cd in mp3 format and put them in the changer. You can get 5-6 albums on a disc and 6 discs in the changer so thats 30+ albums..... And if you name them properly etc then the the album and track are displayed in the display! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Cheers for the response

Yep, I have a splitter lead.

To make it a bit neater I've switched the normal aux socket in the cubby box for a USB and aux socket, and permanently wired the new aux socket to the cars aux socket. The cable runs under the centre console and up through one of the cup holders, with an iPhone specific holder in the cup holder.

It looks neat (no trailing wires) but I'd like to control it from the head unit. Unfortunately, I am a massive music buff, with thousands and thousands of tracks on my phone, so sounds like the integrated option wont work too well?

I saw this on ebay, ignoring the price, any idea how well it might work?

John, This is the same unit that you can buy from Dan for around £400. Ask him for an up to date price.

Yep thats the one i was talking about.

Ask dan for a price, though to be honest if it is anything like as functional as the unit i had in my 07 bmw(different system entirely i realise)
Then it was next to useless if you had more than 30 artists... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I did some research down the same line as you have John.

I did look at the LR (Dension) solution. While this does offer integration into the touchscreen and steering wheel the actual operation may prove to be nothing like you would expect or are used to from your iPhone. The LR solution in my opinion is very limited due to the design/function of the LR touchscreen interface and the LR (Dension) unit. You will have no options via the LR touchscreen to play be artist, album, genre etc. If you imagine your current CD interface on your touchscreen then the LR solution utiliises this screen only to facilitate playback. So this limits you to only using playlists or shuffle. Most folk maybe happy with this solution but I myself could not justify the cost vs functionality offered by this solution.

There was one alternative I did find to the LR solution which while being similar in design to the LR setup, ie using touchscreen and steering wheel controls etc. However this system does also allow for artist, genre and album selection. It also supports wireless music streaming which again the standard LR system does not. Below is the link to the product selling on eBay. Cost is high at £500 without installation.

Below is the link to the user manual which gives further details of operation etc.

I did speak to this company to establish if they had a system installed in a RR I could demo, this is were things got a bit muddy, although they assured me the system works perfectly etc they were not forthcoming with any kind of demonstration, this was about 4 or 5 months back so things may have changed. For this reason I decided not to bother taking it any further and due to cost concerns made the decision to stick with just using the aux input for now.

Another option you may want to consider would be something like the Alpine EZi-DAB solution. This uses its own header unit/interface and has the benefit of also adding DAB radio. However you will not be able to control your music selection with your touchscreen or steering wheel and will need to use the Alpine header unit to do this with instead. There are some recent posts regarding the EZi-DAB showing the system installed. I have added one below which gives you a good idea how the system looks in the RR.

Good luck with your search, keep us informed with what you decide on.
