For ferry, when I have used the tunnel always had a delay so took as long as the ferry which is cheaper, even better value if you book via caravan club even if not towing and at least you can have a good break and leg stretch. Agree tunnel looking shabby.
Typical trip midlands to Limoges 5 am to 6/7 pm with hour and half break on ferry quick wee stop at Orleans. Mine was a blue one!

We used the Chunnel for the first time on Sunday after driving back from Germany with my new 22 year old motorhome.

Have to admit that at 3m tall and 2.5m wide, it felt tight but we fitted in OK and it was so easy.

The standard height carriages look far too tight for an FF.

I've booked a day trip for shopping next month, after reading this thread I booked with a roof box, so will my ticket put me into a different lane than normal when I check in? How do they sort which you've booked?

If you have booked high, you get a slightly different hanger with an up chevron over the car pictogram, and select the over 1.95m lane as you approach the queuing area, they check you have the correct ticket as you pass the little portacabin usually. This is all after customs etc. pretty self explaitory when you get there. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I've done it both ways . In the regular carriage it is tight but lock in access height and all is well. Remember to do this at the height check barrier on the approach or it it will catch the gps antenna. I know cos i did. Going in the regular height carriage gives more options for alternative trains, early or later arrivals etc.. The double height carriage is however less claustrophobic. Either way it works. 2012 5.0L S/C

I've changed my access height to -60mm using IID tool so we should be ok. Looks nice when parked up in access mode too!
