Ok, fitted mine. Took about an hour doing it slowly and methodically. Half of that was recovering a lost bolt though.

Drove to the fuel station and shops. Not noticed any difference yet - but not expecting to on a short trip anyway. I am expecting: -

1. A small decrease in fuel consumption. I monitor this quite carefully so will know if there's a difference.

2. A small increase in warm up time. I'm guessing the EGR cooler is on the heater circuit.

3. A slight, almost placebo, improvement in performance.

4. Some 'uplift' - as ^^ above. I'm hoping it'll be enough for me to do some yogic flying, as below.

Ok, I've done 460km's (285 miles) since installing and filling up. It's been my regular 27 mile each way commute which is a mixture of a roads (50-60mph) and motorway (75mph), + the odd trip to the shops. My normal brimmed figure for this is a little over 27mpg and the dash display records something like 29mpg.

The brimmed figure with the blanking kit fitted was 30.784, which is by far the best I've ever had by over 2mpg, and is 3.5mpg better than I was expecting - a nearly 13% improvement!

The EGR lets more exhaust gas into the inlet charge during high load, so if you're doing more high speed motorway or lots of acceleration in town I'd expect you to get a bigger difference.

So point 1 above - really significant improvement in fuel consumption.

Point 2 - I've not noticed any difference. I don't know how clever the EGR valve is, I suspect not very. The more sophisticated ones I hear don't run until the engine is warm as NOX won't be a problem in a cold engine.

Not noticed any improvement in performance.

Re uplift - yes, I feel some. Just wish I'd done this when I bought the car as I'd have saved approx £1150!

So I have a more economical car, the polar bears have less CO2 to deal with - who are the losers here?

Well, EGR is there to reduce NOX emissions which are formed at high temperatures. You might think introducing a charge of hot exhaust gas wouldn't reduce temperatures but it reduces the oxygen content so works effectively. However, hot intake air degrades the performance of the engine and also increases the particulate emissions - hence EGR equiped diesels these days have a particulate filter.

NOX is a particularly horrible gas. As well as being a green house gas it also causes acid rain. It's a very good idea to reduce NOX emissions. I personally feel that EGR is the wrong way to do it, and would much rather go down the adblue route.

Incidentally, my dashboard mpg display is now accurate.

i found that the td6 engine does run better with the egr blanking and it gave me more mpg as well... ... - .- -.

I did mine this year and I could feel the difference. Getting better mpg too.

It was enough for me just to know that all the soot is not going back into the engine.

Anything else is a bonus....

done mine mid summer this year and it went for its m.o.t today and it didn't affect it in anyway or form when they done the emission test,passed with flying colours.... so it gives you better miles to the gallon, keep the internal part of the engine cleaner,gives you better throttle response,all i have to say is for something that cost relatively cheap and anyone with a mechanical know how can do this has to be the best mod on the market for the l322... if you haven't done yours,try it if you dont like it everything can go back as it was ,nothing is cut or drilled.... merry christmas everyone....
