For me the 322 I even not considered to get….to old-fashioned and boxy IMHO , horrible ride like a big tanker in the mountains, smooth as long as roads are straight.
The 405 is just a great and beautiful car , I love the new and modern, much younger design and don't feel old in this car Mr. Green as I would in the L322.

Back on topic, I have to say my next range rover will either have to be a late model L322 or (sorry for this) a new RRS - I have yet to warm to the shape / style of the L405. "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

Have to agree with MrP....if given a choice between new L405 and new RRS.....I would pick the Sport Shocked
Late l322 is still my first choice but Thumbs Up

what would the Gods say? i bet Spen King is banging the bonnets of all his rangies in rangie heaven and reshaping a clay buck with butter pats and giving the new L405 the skunk eye! the classic, and L322, with all those plain slab sides, and casltated bonnet, and functional simple shape, lmakes the L405 look like its been sanded down to within an inch of its life!

as people aspire to own a car like this, they will be brought into reality, when told that the roadtax will be so high, that it totally puts the british off the model, and they go buy an old L322 and pay a quarter of the road tax on it. ie £250ish leaving L405's to flounder in the auctions, only to be bought by wise dealers to sell to the spainish, or any other sensible country, and they will !! new jags, and land rovers dont look british at all now. jags ran out of favour in about 1995, under ford, and JLR is going sour now.

when i see new rolls royce 'barges' selling new at £450,000 that means an incredible 20% of that is going to the government and then the suprhigh roadtax too. (dont mention the fuel!) people will buy them, (L405) but as mentioned earlier, they will really go out of fashion quick!

i bet 'powerfulUK' is retooling as i speak of course!

i cant see myself ever selling my old l322

I don't see road tax in the UK a barrier for acquiring a L405. It's just not on the radar!

Given time the new shape will gain credibility and wider acceptance and the current sales justify the design direction which brings financial security to UK manufacturing.

From some of the stories on here the quality raises more concern but not having seen one close up I can't make an informed comment but given the mis direction of Daimler Benz in taking out cost at the expense of quality a few years back I would hope the senior management would have put the bean counters back in their box if the subject ever came up.
