National Speed Awareness Course

I have to go to a course tomorrow to learn how to be a better, more aware speeder.

37 in a 30, no deffence, I was speeding. I didn't spot the camera as the nav was set to LPG POI's rather than camera POI's and it was a fwd facing one round a corner.

Speedings baaaad M-Kay.

Much better to get the offer of a course that the points.

It worked on my Mum, she used to go everywhere at light speed, now she doesn't after doing the course.
One day she got stopped by the police twice in the same day. Both times for doing 47mph in a 30 zone. Shocked

TBH Wiltshire isn't too bad, I was caught in Northampton though, which apparently is the worst place for camera's.

Hi Dan, please post your thoughts on the course once completed. A couple of months ago I received the Notice of Intent to Prosecute for doing 36 in a 30 Evil or Very Mad on a local stretch of road that every one knows is a "revenue generating" place for the mobile cameras Exclamation

After my initial moaning and groaning about having to cough towards the costs of running the "safer roads" scheme and being another statistic to justify their existance I decided to ask for the photos. I knew it was me driving but just thought I would put this to the test - 10 days later, " Censored " there I am as clear as anything driving along in my Rangie on a sunny day with the shades on! No wonder they prosecuted - flash git Embarassed

Anyway I signed the forms to say yes it was me and then a couple of weeks later I get the letter saying the usual 3 points and £60 fine blah blah or as a gesture I could take the "one time offer" of a speed awareness course Evil or Very Mad Now this just tipped me over the edge....I was going to write, huff and puff and anything else I could think of as I have a clean driving licence and do not consider myself to be such a bad driver that I need to go back to school Shocked

After a few days of moaning to everyone including the dog I suddenly had a change of heart and became curious Confused Its not the fact that I can avoid 3 points, I was after all breaking the limit so I will take my punishment as the honest citizen that I am but I interested to see what the course does that is suddenly going to change my driving since passing my test 27 years ago!

Anyone else want to cast their opinion or experiences?

I'm betting they show you pictures of people/children maimed and killed just because they were breaking the speed limit. Kind of make you think speeding is dangerous, unaceptable and irresponsible.

Similar to the way that drink driving has changed over the years from being kind of OK to being downright crazy.
My opinion is that UK plc is trying to change the actual view of speeding by the nation as a whole.

My dad had to do the course a few months back and was expecting it to be a few hours of being talked down to, but he said it was the complete opposite. He found it very useful and got a few good tips off it. 2006 Mercedes CLS

Well, it was quite tedious. They quoted lots of statistics, many were out of date and floored. When people questioned the stats they just said they are only going by what they were given which undermined what they were trying to get across. If you're going to quote figures, you should understand them yourself and know where they came from.

I asked if their graphs and figures were up to date with cars modern technology, specifically Electronic Brake Assist and Electronic Brake-Force Distribution. They said no, as the figures have to basically reflect the worst case scenario, so the stopping distances quoted were for a car with no driver assists and drums on the rear.

Although speeding is bad.... it seems they have gone out of their way to give me a whole load of reasons not to speed that aren't relevant to me/75% of other road users with modern cars which almost legitimises speeding even more!
