cup holders - is it just me?

seems when you talk to people about their cars the first thing they tell you is the number of cup holders Smile

i've had them and got them - but have never used one

now i'll admit if you have kids they may be a good idea?

but beyond that to me they are about as much use as tits on a bull Mr. Green

i carry a small bottle of lucozade in the front cubby box

i've 'banned' drinks and eating food in my past few cars - had too many disasters inc chips and curry sauce over the dash and hot coffee into the radio/cd Rolling with laughter

and as a smoker i don't smoke in the RR

I know I have two cupholders in the front of the RR, no idea where/ how many there are in the back as I hardly ever sit there (is it still two in the centre arm rest/headrestraint?). Like you I don't allow drinks or sweets or icecreams in the car after I spilled CoffeeMate powder into the front cupholder of the 1st RRS, what a pain to clean up. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

talking of bad 'spills'

many moons ago my father had to brake suddenly and two dozen double yoked eggs were broken!

two years on and in hot weather there was still a small of rotten eggs Laughing

mind you the worst 'spill' i had was on a bus many years ago as a kid

we used to go to the abattoir and get buckets of blood to add to fishing groundbait - one day the bus braked suddenly and two buckets of blood - clots and all - went pouring down the bus Rolling with laughter

needless to say i was thrown off the bus five miles from home!

The 2 in the front of mine are used daily Very Happy

My kids are only young so the rear one's don't get used at the minute. Try not to let the kids eat and drink in the car but hard when on a long drive or out for the day. At the end of the day it all cleans up Thumbs Up

I use mine but I prefered the old single adjustable front one, any bottle or mug fitted. The currect duo ones, taken from the Sport and D3 are just pants. NOTHING fits in them properly. I even bought the later liners with the rubber bits in, just made it the opposite problem, too small.

This is one of the very few areas I think LR dropped the ball.

How hard could it be to get all the leading brands of bottled water in 750ml and make one that fits them. Instead they seem to have conjoured up their own size, and the 2 in the rear don't even fit normal cans now!!!! Censored Censored Discovery 4 HSE

Funnily enough I was at the stealers last week and whilst waiting for the parts guy noticed the LR accessory Flask & Cup which explained to me why the cupholders in the front are designed NOT to take anything on sale except the 'approved' LR Cup/Flask.

More £ in the LR kitty....still better than some BMWs though that don't have one at all!!! Usually a common talking point on the BMW forums...and you'd be surprised how much one misses a cupholder (even one that needs packing out) when the door bins are too small to hold a bottle of water!!

I have the LR flask/ cup! Thumbs Up Haven't got round to using it yet!

I guess the people who go on about cupholders aren't usually the people who have Range Rovers! I wonder if our cupholders are optimised for extreme angles! That would be impresssive, self levelling cupholders! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Ikea used to sell a stainless steel insulated mug with cap for £1.99 (well it was when I bought mine 3 years ago after somebody swiped my LR one!) that fits exactly in a 2010MY front cup holder, looks just like the LR one but without the LR Logo

EDIT I cannot find them now in their online catalogue so have edited the post to be "used to sell!" 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

No drinks in the car, unless they are mine, and even then it would be a bottle of water only with a screw tight lid (for use when stopped only!) .

As kids we were sat in the back of my Dads car.. been the chip shop, returned to car and my sister opened her can of pop.... someone forgot to tell her it had been given a right good shake. Unfortunately for my Dad... just as he turned to reverse the car he got a full on stream of jet propelled coke in the face. There was an outline of my Dad on the Windscreen from the spray, coke running down the windscreen.

We laughed so hard I couldn't eat me chips! Memories. 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

I won't let anyone eat or drink in the Mini after a friend managed to drop a McDonalds curry sauce tub on the floor, then managed to stand on it, the smell was horrible and lingered for weeks.

RR however, leather wipes clean so what the hell Laughing

My brother did knock a half cup of coffee over the centre console last year when we were driving back from Aylesbury, but then again, he's bloody useless anyway so I sort of expected it. It's not easy to drive on a motorway trying to mop up hot coffee and use all the swear words under the sun at the same time Laughing 2006 Mercedes CLS

Couldn't do without my cup holders to be honest... the adjustable one on the left of the centre console, which is used daily on the way in to work - and the large round ashtray housing in the middle which holds my 1 litre water bottle a treat for longer journeys! Thumbs Up

Rear have not been used yet as we don't have tiny drains on our finances. Rear DVD screens also not used for same reason - although I'm sure they'll come in handy at some point.
