It all becomes personal choice methinks I have free 1st class flights anywhere in the world a share in an aircraft yet unless an emergency if I was heading to Europe would drive - main reason because I enjoy it so its horses for courses and no rights or wrongs but do like the idea of a pegasus ff Cool

Assuming Birmingham is the best average set off point as its in the middle of the UK then driving the Range Rover to Memmingen Airport area in Eastern Bavaria is 1258 Kilometres and 12 hours driving without stops. Therefore to be fair its a two day trip involving a ferry or Eurotunnel and a stop over in a hotel somewhere. Its then another two day 1258 Kilometre trip back so four days out of any short break.....

As flying time is just over an hour each way it has to at least be a sensible cheap alternative if wanting to visit a market for a couple of days.

Given the choice and time I would drive every time as I often do Cool

the biggest advantage of driving is that you can bring anything and everything you 'might' need for the days you are away, and in my wifes case [no pun intended] loads of clothes and shoes etc....and there's the duty free booze and ultimately the drive is an adventure .... ... - .- -.

I recently flew me and the other three members of my family to Germany to collect our new motorhome.

BA into Hannover. Late flight, so very reasonable although nowhere near as cheap as Ryanair, but as we needed a taxi to the airport, flying from Heathrow made financial sense. C-Class estate (brand new) at the other end and within 15 minutes of landing. Plane half empty.

So easy. So quick.

Great road trip home in our motorhome, but slow. And although a massive adventure, if I just wanted to get there and back easily, I'd fly every time. I'm a huge fan of these smaller airports for the same reason Gary has said.

For another example, I regularly fly into Rotterdam rather than Schipol. Far smaller, far quicker, far more efficient and a better use of my time.

Sure, driving is more of an experience, but if it was over a weekend with my children, then fly in, drive, fly out each time. Si. <This is my name.

I eat rat poison.

A man ain't truly been insulted until he stands buck naked in front of a woman and she didn't even notice. Or care.

Exactly my point if you need to travel but don't, have time to drive its so easy and cheap and you normally get a brand new hire car to boot. Very Happy
