Australia 2013 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Fuji White
To Tint OR Not To Tint That IS The Question.

I like the factory Tinted glass. It keeps one self and passengers cooler in our Australian sun . Plus it really highlights the floating roof design on Fuji white roofed car. However, speccing a car is truly a personal choice . Also factory tint is easer to clean as you can,t damage the film, with wrong cleaners etc .

So let's focus on the visual aspect - can anyone genuinely claim to prefer the look of cars where the glasshouse is artificially split by only the rear windows being dark (as per UK Construction & Use regs)?

You can tint the fronts, just not as much - you can go to 30% - the law

I have 30% on the fronts, 40% on the back doors & 50% in the boot - or something like that. You can't really tell the difference and it avoids it looking like a van Whistle

I think you will find that the standard fronts are already tinted not far off the legal limit of 30% in any event and you cannot realistically go any darker without risking prosecution - that's what Pentagon told me.

I like the tint, but the L322 is a lot better than most cars without tint. I HATE untinted windows that are significantly smaller on the inside than the outside and end up with a big black border around them. The rear loadspace side windows on the new Range Rover are a good example of this.

On the rare occasion we conduct roadside operations that include tintman, the most a driver can expect is to remove the tint there and then before being allowed on their way. To be honest, there are more important things to deal with.

Have to admit to being slightly obsessive on gangster glass. I accept that if you want to look like a drug dealer or a complete dick, having succeeded enough to have a range rover you should be allowed to be as chavy as you want.
What I don't understand is why obscuring rear windscreens and therefore removing following vehicles through visibility is a good thing, high level brake lights became mandatory to reduce rear ending the car in front and pimp windows remove the gain.
Anyone want a second hand soap box. letters not necessarily in the right order

Ah yes, another added benefit, people don't tailgate you as they cannot see through Mr. Green

I've found 'people' (3 Series BMW's and Audi A4 rep mobiles in the main) don't bother trying to tailgate the RR in the way they did my E Class, which makes for a more relaxing motorway experience

Playing devils advocate (as is its clear see-through should be a benefit to drivers behind), the alternative argument, and the one advocated by Highway Code, is one should drive as visibility permits and never drive so close one hits the vehicle in front should it have to perform an emergency stop.... 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Sorry for picking up on this thread so late, missed it while I was away.

I have had all three options, clear, after market tints and now finally I have the proper factory PG.

For me, as a shooter, tints are essential, it keeps the dog cooler in sunlight all year round, and it prevents people seeing your shooting kit. I was loaned an Evoque recently which had no tints and I felt like everything in the car was really exposed to prying eyes. Even leaving a coaat on the back seat felt like I was inviting some urchin to break into it.

I was shooting on Friday with a chap who had a 12 plate Westminster, silver, no tints, and I felt it looked wrong.

On the RR CLassic - no tints thanks, leave it as it was

On the P38 - light tints looked nice and improved the metrocab looks

On the L322 and L405 I think they were both designed to have tints, esp the L405 as it has those thick black glass borders that make the windows look odd without a full tint.

You are spot on Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I got pulled yesterday,... well the Mr Plod followed me into work!

Got the light metre out and the fronts which had a light tint on showed 38 ish %, without the tint on the fronts after peeling it off was 73% light in, just to let you all know the windscreen was 80%!

Just shows that you really cant put any tint on the front! If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Factory tint is certainly my preference and particularly having a light interior and RSE.

I looked at a couple without it fitted and for me it makes them look less well proportioned and top heavy, however, it is all personal preference of course... 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE

Definitely the gangster look for me. But it isn't to hide the drugs, it keeps the small designer sausage dogs who reside on back seat cool and out of the sun and away from those who might have other intentions. Whistle
Won't post a picture as sure to be shot down in flames and told to return to the dark side Bow down Bow down
