Getting ready to change tyres

OK - So loads on here about the best winter tyres to get but.... Do most of you have a winter set and a summer set. I read a lot about winter tyres getting too hot and sticky in the summer.

I don't have a second set of wheels (or a great deal of space to store a second set) so is there a good enough "all year" tyre option for those like me.

I found these and the write ups look good but unsure if I need a summer set for when the weather is better..

Linky

If a single set is fine for all year - is this a good price for these..?

Any thoughts/comments..? Ash

I've never tried the Hanooks - but they are not a winter tyre.

I run Michelin Diamaris in the summer & Vredesteins in the winter and have been very happy with both

Whether you need to run winters & summers is really a cost question - it's the best thing to do, but does cost more so I understand why people don't. It really depends on what sort of driving you do as to whether it's worth the expense to you - it's really a personal decision.

unless you live half way up a mountain i dont see the point of a winter set...the range rover on normal tyres is more than capable of coping with the general winter weather we get , and tbh those of us who live in towns/citys ,the roads are normally cleared quickly...
anyway who can afford to have two sets of tyres cos they aint cheap.. ... - .- -.

Er...me Embarassed and a spare set of wheels to keep them on.

I agree that for most of us they are a luxury, but if you wan the case for winter tyres -

The common understanding is that winter tires are better than summer at below 7 degrees C. In my part of the UK, that is from November to April!

Or how about something like these as a spare/winter set?

And given that I don't do that much mileage and what I do is mainly to the station and back it probably does't matter a great deal.. Ash

Same over here in the Netherlands... November till end March sometimes early April. Furthermore in some neighboring countries winter tyres are mandatory so when crossing the borders you should have them. Also living in the country and towing a horse trailer I certainly vote for winter tyres.

I happened to buy a seperate set of original RR rims with still 8mm on the tyres last April when most people would not buy them anymore since they would not use them till November. There for I was able to buy them for 1000 Euro which was a good price!! They would have been 1000 Euro each at the dealer so not bad for a set of four... Mike.

As in another thread on the subject, I have used Hankook Ventus since 2010 - the same set, and they've been very good over the last two Winters. Changing them this week for a further set of the same, and only now because a collapsed rear wishbone bush has caused uneven wear. I don't have a second set of 'Winters', these are great for all seasons.

+1 on winters, obligatory here anyway, but I would have a set in the uk if I still lived there.

A spare set of wheels are quite cheap these days, and ok, you need to buy them and the tyres, but you're only wearing out one set at a time.

No worries - Something similar you could help me with.

As I don't do that much mileage and the type is normal roads in the south east of england I;m not likely to need any serious winter tyres.

Looking for something that will be an "only" set and not need to change for summer use etc...

Thx Ash
