Can anyone and everyone who have had a megaflush performed on their gearbox's please fill in the poll as to weather their gearbox filter was changed please...

Almost everyone I have spoken to who have had this performed have not had the filter changed... The excuses range from "we'll do it next time" to "it looked nice and clean so didn't change it mate"

Well, you cannot inspect the filter FACT! And without removing the sump, how do you clean the magnets and visually check the sump for swarf etc etc...

Seems like a bit of a scam to me... If you went into Any garage and they serviced your FF, the filter gets changed with the engine oil as an industry standard. How then are these flushing companies getting away with this?

Its not hard to work out why they are neglecting to do the job right... Easy to connect hoses from the top and turn a machine on, harder to do the job right though

As well as changing oil in the gearbox are there other fluids I should be thinking of changing as my car is just knocking on the door of 80k. I change the engine oil annually and pay the extra for synthetic but your post made me wonder.

I've been thinking of getting a Megaflush but I am cautious as if it were that good surely main dealers would offer it - or even some more Indys.

I have run out of things to pimp so I might have to make a start on the oily bits, although there are still a couple of jobs outstanding. Like getting the towbar off but then again as the parking sensors don't work most of the time it makes a pretty good rear sensor itself  Geoff

Can't megaflush here but would change the filter afterwards.

Actually had my filter changed last week after my gearbox got the local version of megaflush (replaced the ATF 6 times to get rid of the coolant/ATF milkshake) and the correct ATF put in.

Craig is correct, the filter change is very easy to do, remove the sump bolts (although on the first change a few bolts were corroded in), drop the filter/sump, put the new one up and bolts back in. Fill the box. Done it myself lying under the car in offroad height, not comfortable but pretty easy. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Eugene, how would you change filter afterwards my friend? The sump needs to be removed to change the filter and then the oil would be lost... Sorry if im being thick but your statement may be misleading to others

Of course, you'd be putting another 7 liters of fresh ATF in. To me the flush only helps cleaning deposits out of the system by the flushing action (similar to what happens with hydraulic systems when you commission them).

Unless you of course put the ATF that you drain first back in again. Then you only have to top up the amount left in the filter. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Not a megaflush but I've had the gearbox fluid "changed" twice recently on my TD6 and was intending to change the Filter for an original on the next change. Each change involved replacing approx 7L of fluid.
I did read however an opinion elsewhere that it's not really necessary to change the filter as the filter itself is very "course", it's purpose being to filter out "larger" pieces of debris. I hate to think where the "larger" pieces of debris comes from.
Not sure I agree with the idea of leaving the filter alone but I wondered if anyone has actually pulled an old filter apart to determine it's construction to confirm or disprove the "course" notion.
I'm still inclined to replace the filter next time for an OEM unless anyone can come up with a good reason not to.
If I do change it I will of course pull it apart to satisfy my curiosity.

I am impress someone would actually offer such "service", it is plain stupid. one needs to change the filter and clean/change the magnets and inspect for debris.

However, rather than going for a mega flush, (not available here anyway) I do get the transmission box oil changed every 30 000 miles. with the Land Rover filters.

one may go for the ZF metal sump upgrade, but it is more useful on RRS and D3s.

Do change your transmission oil much more often than LR tells you... unless you do not mind spend thousand and being stuck on the side of the road, on a winter, sunday night with the kids in the back... (Haven't been there, but many here have...) l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Ours had the gearbox oil and filter changed and at the same time, they decided to replace the actual sump. Does replacing the sump negate the 'need' for a mega flush or am I confused?

Ps... I was also told by the MD that the filter was ''part of the kit" (what kit? Is that the kit that comes with the new sump)?

The point of the POLL is to highlight how many are having the "Megaflush" with or without changing the filter...

The filter is built into the sump on your 6 speed FF The 5 speed has an internal filter

The "kit" comprises of Sump, new bolts and sump gasket

the plastic sump, magnets and filter are a one piece unit from Land Rover, you do change the whole thing.

To take it off from underneath the GB, you need to flush as much as possible (about 7 liters) otherwise you'll get oil all over you.

Therefore to inspect any defect, metal bits or else, you do need to take the Sump/filter element, no question asked.
