Upgrading my 2006 TD6 FFRR

I have bitten the bullet and agreed a deal on a 2010 5.0 SC Autobiography. It's a black, 33K miles, one owner vehicle with a full LR service history. hope to get the car on Thursday and can't wait... Rolling Eyes

I have an IID tool for my existing 2006 3.0 TD Vogue SE, does anybody know if this would work with the 2010 car? I am guessing not, so will probably need to ponder how to divest myself of it, any (sensible) suggestions would be most welcome Very Happy Should've been old enough to know better...doh!

congrats on the forthcoming purchase.. Thumbs Up

your current IIDTool wont work on the 2010 model, but saying that ,the 2010-2012 models are under development according to the GAP web site..
i'd email GAP and ask what your options are.. ... - .- -.

Cheers guys, very excited!

I'll post some piccys once I get my hands on it Cool

Thank for the advice Stan, I will do just that. I am hoping there is need for an IID tool for it for a year or two yet, but would feel exposed without one handy, great devices Very Happy Should've been old enough to know better...doh!

No , they only had the white one and it was to pricey for my wallet. This one was just a bit further along Boucher Rd at SERE. They have had it in stock for a long time & were keen to deal as a result Very Happy Should've been old enough to know better...doh!

As I can't as yet comment on 5.0 SC AB ownership, thought I would jot done a few musings on my TD6 owning experience.

The TD6 was bought cheap as it had no service history, faulty sat nav & aircon. However the car passed my extensive poking & prodding, so figured it was worth a punt.

The sat nav fault was easily traced to a failed antenna & was fixed by fitting an EBay sourced (£6) after market one inside the original roof fin. Took about two hours of work. Got a £49 aircon recharge from Quickfit in Belfast, although it took 2 visits for them to get the car to accept it, it has worked flawlessly ever since.

The car has completed 18K miles in my hands and has never failed to get me where I was going, but has had two attacks of limp home mode, one caused by a failing lift pump and the other by faulty injector wiring. The lift pump was £80 and a faff to replace taking about 4 hours of contortionist antics to complete. The injector wiring I fixed by tightening the terminals to No 4 injector. My IID tool had correctly indicated that injector as being the culprit making fault finding straightforward.

In addition to the normal routine maintenance I replaced the front discs & pads, the top rear hub to wishbone bushes and the gearbox oil and filter and had to free up both rear callipers as each one took an independent bout of sticking on. All of these tasks proved to be pretty simple to accomplish.

I have loved driving about in it and, for such a technically complex car, found it easy and affordable to maintain myself. To that end the help and advice from this forum has been absolutely invaluable. It has averaged 21.9 mpg which is disappointing but reflective of a lot of short journeys (I live less than two miles from my office).

The only complaint I would have is engine noise at idle and during acceleration, once in the cruise peace reigns.

People always commented on it and it was always the car of choice for longer trips, my colleagues invariably ask if we could go in it rather than any other vehicle. My wife says it is the only car she can get comfortable enough to sleep (As a passenger!) in and my two daughters are always trying to blah it off me.

To sum up, it is easy to get put off by the tales of woe but don't be scared of these cars, with the right research and support pick a good one and it will be hugely rewarding. Best advice is don't follow my example, buy one with a perfect service history unless you really know your way around cars. It has worked for me on this occasion, I have 43 years experience of building, modifying and maintaining cars, but am aware that is by no means a guarantee of getting it right every time Big Cry

Hope this helps anyone contemplating ownership. Should've been old enough to know better...doh!
