BONG!! Transferbox Neutral Gremlin

Scared the life out of me this morning Shocked

A bit of history. Car been sat for five days, then driven 50 miles, no problems. Sat for 2 days, but started to pump up tyre, no problems.

Set off to work this morning after about a mile and a half, having got up to 60mph and set Cruise, message centre started bonging at me with "TRANSFERBOX NEUTRAL" about 10 times in quick succession, then stopped. No triangles left in message centre. No problems with drive or power. Continued onto work for another 20 miles, switched off and no reprise of message.

Just one of those things I guess....... Yawn .

Not touched it for over a year, nor tried to go Low/High in that time. (although I did do the HDC the other week?) .

Was a gremlin, must have scared it off, because it hasn't revisited. .

Ah, well, it came back again this morning. Exactly the same MO: car sat for five days, then driven 50 miles. car then sat for two days, then driven @ 1.5 miles @ 7.30am. Happened in exactly the same place on the road on the way to work. Only got five bongs this time.

So note to self:
drive car more often after leaving for five days, try starting work at a different time, or take a different route to work Whistle .

Bit of high low switching and liberal application of a hammer to the car, not necessarily to the transfer box, you dont want to anger it after all... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

What Gary said,
I would check the battery too. Had the same warnings (and more) myself, all resolved with a new battery.....and alternator!

The fact that happens after leaving the car unused for 5 days is a clear indicator its the battery. Get a new one first before you get the hammer out. Maybe worth checking alternator output too. Thumbs Up

As gaz said i reckon. What battery have you got?
If its a 90AH rated one it could spell trouble if the weather gets cold this year?

Maybe spend sometime with it on a ctek charger, i've bought one for this very reason and the fact i have a shed load of batteries in the garage that i could breath better life into helps as well Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I know what you are saying about the battery, but it doesn't make sense.
No problems starting up after five days, and no issues for fifty miles.
The bong comes two days later in the morning, in the same place, after starting up fine. Might take the dowsing rods out, just to check for leylines or force fields Laughing
Its a Varta 110ah battery with the high crank.

I'm not overly concerned, just sharing a gremlin Very Happy

And where do I hit it with a hammer Meerbusch? .

Must hit the hammer to the motor shape of the transferbox motor, and you must test (like I do) the motor each week, or two days the week, mostly the drivers only drive in high range, therefore the low range becomes lazy .... had never used the low range about two years! Joe next time before you go out see what voltage your actually getting at the battery and don't forget after cranking it drops another chunk as well so could be a gremlin where the system voltage gets back to a certain level? Maybe monitor it on the dash ? FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
