I've seen these and thought about how much of an idiot I'd look. (Suitcase, not the shoes or dress!) Discovery 4 HSE

Depends what you're carrying really - I hate checking in luggage, so have brought some fairly weird stuff through as hand baggage - and some of it quite heavy - BA will let me carry 23kg (& I've exceeded that on occasion) - and whilst I'm fine lifting that over my head & into a locker, it's is a lot to lug through the airport as it can be quite a long walk, especially lop sided as it's all in 1 bag. Last week it was this which had the security guys at Gatwick conferring - in the end they could think of no good reason why not - mains operated and nothing sharp - they were considering it a 'workmans tool' which is banned, but ended up agreeing to let me carry it ![]() |

Ha ha!! Reminds me of a situation way back when I used to work at the FCO (Foreign Office) in London back in the '80s. I used to work in a Dept. that coordinated the Diplomatic Couriers and often they would get asked to take some weird things with them when they flew abroad delivering the 'Diplomatic Bags'. One poor sod was requested to take a 'couple of bits and bobs' out for the Ambassador in Lima, Peru. The Courier replied 'no problem', get the bits to Heathrow and I'll put them in the overhead locker'. Imagine his surprise when the 'bits' turned out to be a full exhaust system and four new tyres for a RR Classic!! He had been allocated two seats on the flight (one for him and one for the Diplomatic Pouch), and so had to sit for eleven hours with an exhaust and tyres balanced on him and the spare seat!! BA couldn't refuse to take the items on board the plane either, as they were labelled as 'Diplomatic Baggage'!! ![]() |

I took Range Rover parts on a plane last year. They did a full security check. I thought for a moment it would include a cavity searchbut fortunately they relented when they saw it was just brake pads and filters.

These words rang so true last night - there was a bloke at Gatwick mincing along with a tiny little bag on wheels, then stops right at the base of an escalator to try to collapse the handle, causing an immediate queue - which was bad enough - but the stupid ![]() ![]() |
