The Vulcan was also used as the test bed for concorde's Olympus engine. Just thought you'd like to know for your next pub quiz!

Indeed it was. A very different Bristol Olympus to the ones powering the Vulcan. They increased air flow by making the insides smaller (very clever) and added reheat. The result was twice the thrust. It was the same engine for the TSR2.

More for the pub quiz - Olympus engines were designed for the TSR2 programme, they were also the boost engines for the Type21 frigate.

United Kingdom 2019 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Santorini Black

Back on track now: Progress has been made today, I managed to devote most of the weekend to detailing the car's exterior. For some reason, the car doesn't feel properly 'mine' until I have done this, so I wanted to get it done ASAP.

The car was detailed by the Dealers, but it was that superficial silicone coating they give everything which wears off after a couple of washes and I KNEW, it would be nothing like the standard that I would go to.

I started last night, a good wash and de-silicone and then let it drip dry overnight.

Started at 10am this morning by removing all the tar spots on the car using Autoglym Tar remover (petrol is just as good if not better TBH).

Next I clay barred the entire car insluding the glass. Not as bad as I thought it would be, the lower door panels were the worst.

Next I used Meguiars Stage 1 Crystal Paint Cleaner and my Porter Cable Random Orbital Polisher all over, then the Meguiars Stage 2 Crystal Paint Polish. The final routine was using Autoglym HD Wax (£45 a tub). It's not that nice to apply but leaves a great coat of wax.

Then there was all the little bits like Autosol on the steps and tail pipes, cleaning the alloys and waxing them, treating all the black plastic trim, mudflaps, tyres, wheel arches (Some B*gger on here mentioned this a while back, I took the Censored but now find myself doing it! Big Cry ) and finally cleaning the glass and Rain-x all over.

The end result is worth every bit of the 7.5 hours spent in total, it looks amazing now. The Santorini paint has a beautiful multi colour speckle which you only see up close in sunlight, and as you'd expect I took lots of pics of the finished thing for you. I'm still working on the original Supercharged Grille so at the moment the MY12 one will have to do.

What do you think?

And...relax! Very Happy

Yet another person who spends all his money on a flash car and then has to live in a shed.

Looks lovely Smile

The guy I use locally for detailing said he was working on a Santorini Black one the other day and was amazed at the fleck in the paint when looking at it under a halogen light to machine polish it.

I've got my first long drive in it at the weekend to Norfolk so next week I'll do a little comparison summary of the 3.6TDV8 and the 5.0 SC, and also a little bit of 4.2 comparison in there for good measure. Discovery 4 HSE
