Our well documented hunt for a Range Rover is closing in on the right car. One of our options is in Mariana Black.

The car looked fantastic, with the blue flecks evident in the bright sunlight. I'm very aware that some colours (particularly dark blue/black combinations can look great when waxed in the showroom but can be much harder to keep looking good in the real world.

Do any owners have experience of Mariana Black? How is it to live with? Is it good/bad for stone chips or touching up?[/code]

Not specifically Mariana, but any metallic black is one of those colours which looks great when it's clean and polished, and lousy when it's dirty and marred from poor wash techniques.

Upsides are it is mirror like when good, by far the best colour IMHO and has great resale value if it's in good condition.

Downsides are stonechips and scratches are almost impossible to touch in so they look respectable, it shows the swirlies from poor washing techniques, and it's the hardest colour to get looking respectable once it's marred.

I've had 2 black cars. No more for me. I stick with the other easy resale colours now like Grey and Silver.

As above really, black is a complete ball ache to keep looking A1. I machine polished mine last year, it looked a million times better, changed my washing method & all my gear but the paint is now showing swirl marks again. Looks like another session with the polisher!

As above from experience of friends owning dark cars in the past.


Ideally if its detailed well when you get it, a weekly gentle wash and a wax/polish every 6 months should have it looking good for life  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Thanks for all the replies. I've no issues with living with a black car. My last 2 cars have been black (out of choice). I'm happy to make sure the car has a good wax base and quite like the opportunity to spend a little time getting our cars looking there best.

My last 2 cars have been Basalt Black (Porsche) which is a standard metallic black. I was interested if the blue fleck made it any different to live with or maintain.

From wan't you've said it sounds like a good option!

I thought Mariana Black was a girl you intended to live with when I read the title, seems she/it is just a colour.
