Got that thanks, Thumbs Up for some reason I thought that was the radio but now I think I herd that the radio module on 2006 MY is behind the nav screen. 2008 MY Supercharged

Hi Axle, I think that's where it lives on the older BMW pre-touchscreen TV units. Steve

The radio module is also in the boot cubby with everything else the only thing in the dash is the IHU (Integrated Head Unit) which combines and controls all of the boxes and supplies the signal to the screen. on a 05 & 06 MY it is directly behind the touchscreen and on the 07 - 09 MY cars it is behind the lower glove box. 06MY 4.4 V8 Autobiography Cairns Blue with Navy & Parchment Interior

Got it - fitted it - works fine !!! Cheers Adrian Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Hi all, went to see 'Wiggs' today, all but 2 miles from where I live and it took him around 5-7mins to hook the unit up in my car and show me it working!! No software updates etc required, literally plug n play (4 cables to move over) then press the 'auto' button on the TV and the freeview channels appeared (with EPG).

Took me around 2hrs after getting home to fit it permanently, but depends what you've got....
if you don't have rear screens, you can simply make up 1 or 2 custom brackets to attach to a couple of the existing bolts, leave the old TV unit where it is (as it is bolted in from behind) , and mount the new slimmer one in front of it and simply move the 4 cables across (the new unit is about half the thickness of my analogue unit and slightly shorter in length).

If like me you have the factory rear screens, then it's more complicated as their control unit takes up the space in front of the old tuner and so there's not enough free space anywhere. Hence, I took out all the kit starting with the mounting bracket holding the nokia/satnav/dvd , then removed the TMC on its mounting, then the rear tv unit, then the main mounting plate containing the Harman Kardom amp/analogue TV tuner (as this is held on by 4 bolts which screw in from the back of the plate). The only cable I left plugged in was the feed to the subwoofer, all others disconnected.
Then simply removed the old analogue unit and attached the digi unit , which due to its smaller size can only utilise 2 of the 4 original bolts but it's fine as it's lighter and slimmer than the old one.
One thing I did find was that I could not get the main mounting panel out without first removing the plastic 'tray' next to the cubby hole (the one with the removable carpet cover over it) and by doing this, it made it a damn sight easier to remove and fit all the kit.

To do this I:-
Took the main carpet/ spare wheel cover out
Removed the nearside 'd' column vertical carpet trim (2 x cargo net clips + nearside front chrome load retainer on floor)
Removed the 3 plastic nuts and 1 plastic popper that retain the plastic 'tray'
Loosened the nearside rear vertical carpet that covers the subwoofer -removed 2 x cargo net clips and removed the nearside rear chrome retainer fixing to allow movement in it.
Removed the plastic tray.
I now had enough space to get at the retaining nuts & bolts and actually remove the main mounting which would not come out any other way for me.

Once I had refitted everything and tidied the wires up a bit, did the reverse of above.
Reckon now I could do it in 30-45mins

It's great, thanks again to Adrian. Highly recommended.
p.s. any overseas person want to buy a 2nd hand analogue TV tuner in great condition - still works in many countries!!!
Very Happy Steve
