Brake calipers

Just found that my osr caliper is binding. Question is, is it worth buying a seal kit or get new caliper. Tried various sites today for cost of a caliper, only reply I had was 'previously owned' (£72.00 delivered). Anybody know approx. cost for new replacement?

I got a front one on ebay for £45 with a £15 exchange charge. Search for X5 calipers usually a fair bit cheaper. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Thanks Rob, will have a look. Not many replies on this question though, am I asking an obvious question?

Not worth buying the seal kit as the pistons will be rusted to the extent they are no longer of use. There are a couple of companies who will make new pistons from stainless steel, but it is a lot cheaper to fit new calipers

New cliper fitted (british car parts - £94ish delivered), should have changed pads, bit didn't. OSR still getting hot. Replaced pads as old ones, due to excees heat, had lost the backing. Took it for a hard braking test drive, all ok.
Next day drove about 15 miles to collect my mother and take her to airport. Checked temperature at 15 miles, nice and cool. Drove to airport and back to home, appprox. 40 miles, osr hot again. Drove to the hay-on wye festival yesterday, forgot to check. On return to home (approx. 40 miles) both rears about the same temperature.
Question is, can the ABS/HDC cause an intermitant problem?

Got mine off the bay with no exchange for about £45-50 IIRC Smile

Not an easy job with caked on bolts but not too bad compared to some other ones Sad

And at least they arent wind back pistons... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

ABS could cause an issue but you would feel it grabbing as it was doing it...

Did you clean the mating surfaces when you put the caliper on?

Its always worth putting new discs and pads on tbh

There are some discs on the bay for £25 brand new at the minute and a set of pads for the right calipers should be about the same. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

It's also worth removing the disc and checking the parking brake shoes.
Mine had a load of cr@p inside the disc and one of the shoes had delaminated. Wink
