Driveline Vibration

I've noticed an unpleasant vibration has appeared on my 2008 TDV8 Vogue.

It's only obvious between around 55 to 85 mph (it isn't noticeable at all at 100+), and is felt most obviously through the seats. You can also see the sunvisors vibrating when they are down. I would say it's coming from somewhere rearwards of the engine, perhaps behind the driver. It's not felt at all via the steering wheel or pedals, there is no accompanying noise and it isn't noticeable under braking.

I've double-checked tyre pressures, tyres and wheel weights and there's no mud, snow or ice accumulated anywhere I can see. Calipers and discs also look fine, and it doesn't appear to be related to engine speed.

Any ideas? Do propshafts or driveshafts go out of balance?

I had it yesterday - it was snow making the wheels very out of balance - was fine when defrosted - maybe it could be this?

Thanks. Snow. mud or ice was my first thought - I did very nearly get stuck on New Year's Eve in deep mud hidden under the snow (ploughed some monster furrows getting out) - but I can't see anything untoward anywhere.

I'll give it a good clean underneath once/if everything thaws to eliminate, but I'm 99.9% sure it isn't that..

check there is no grass, reeds or other debris wrapped round the prop shaft - after your trip into deep mud - this does cause the symptoms you describe. If it is, the cure is a crawl on your back with a sharp knife...

Yes, I know the problems grass can cause, I've destroyed the diff seals on a Discovery with it before (I've also spent far too long cutting it out of various PTOs, balers, mowers etc.).

It didn't bottom-out as such - I put the nearside onto the snow-covered verge into which it immediately sank, front more so than rear.

Fixed itself - I think it was frozen mud on the wheels and/or driveshafts.

Now if the battery would stop discharging itself ...
