Coming from a 2005 Disco to a FFRR!

Hi,
I've currently got a Disco 3 SE but am really starting to get the Range Rover itch. I would say it's worth about £10-£11k and would not want to spend much more than that.

Has anybody come from a Disco?

The main reason for wanting to change is that I much prefer the looks of the FFRR. We don't do much 'off-roading' and don't need a boot bigger than our house.

What could i expect to get for my budget?
Would love a V8 petrol but unsure whether my wallet would agree.

Thanks.

I've had a D3 for three years, and also got the FFRR itch... I scratched it quite hard (£27k) to discover that although the FF is much nicer to sit in, has great presence, and a great stereo, it also has the same lousy Satnav, I thought the TDV8 was a peasant's engine, rough and thirsty. It's not as good to drive on windy roads as the D3 but better on the motorway. I sold it and bought an A8. And still have the D3...

My advice would be to see if you can borrow / hire / test drive one for more than the usual trip round the block - an extended road trip of at least 100 miles to see how you get on.

I'd think that as you'd only get a TD6 for your budget then a petrol is the way to go. Try them both. Graham

If you can live with the cost of a petrol, you will get an awesome car for 10k!

What are the real world figures between the petrol and TDV6? Guessing the TDV8 is out of my price range?

What model should I be aiming for?

Its the TD6, basically the old BMW 330d engine, not the TDV6 from the D3, it never went into the FF.

My TDV8 did 25-27. Cheapest ones are mid-upper teens. Graham

Ok. So just reading into the petrol VS diesel thread and it seems there isn't much in it and looking at the cars for sale, it seems petrol is a lot cheaper than the equivalent diesel.

I understand that. In our Disco, we only average 21mpg (according to the trip computer)

I was just looking at the petrol/diesel thread and it seemed to be little difference.

I changed from a 55 plate D3 manual to an 06 FF TD6 in August last year. We tow a twin axle caravan and have two retriever dogs. The D3 certainly had more storage space than the FF but the FF, IMO tows slightly better than the D3, however both vehicles are excellent for towing. So far I'm really pleased I did the change, there is a compromise with the loss of the extra room but the comfort is a bonus.
TBH I find the performance of the TD6 very good. It tows the caravan with little effort, you hardly know it's on the back, the fuel consumption is good considering the size of vehicle, 21mpg towing, 30mpg on a run and 24/25 around the houses. I must point out that I have just joined the OAP club so I'm no longer have the desire for the more powerful models.
Hopefully the FF will be as reliable as my D3 which I had for five years with no major defects. '88 RR Classic, '90 Classic, '93 Classic, '02 Discovery TD5, '55 Discovery 3, '01 P38 4.6, '06 L322 Vogue TD6, 2012 L322 Vogue TDV8, 2017 L405 Autobiography

What are peoples views on LPG conversions?

Read a few threads about it but they are all a few years old.
