Great thanks... I thought satin would likely look smart... Am presuming from what you say that the Hammerite matt black finish also looks smart if done well and is in keeping with the car??

If the car is just put onto off road height, is it safe to get underneath and wire brush, clean and spray please???

Park your car overnight at offroad height and see if it does anything. Mine doesn't sag at all for days since my bags at the front have been replaced I use it regularly in offroad height when I need to be underneath (currently the gearbox issues). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Done... One and a half aerosol cans of Hammerite High Heat Matt Black paint used. Looks very good.

Think (Gaz Elliot's) satin finish might look even better than matt black though..

I did mine at the weekend. All I did was to wire wool the 'box using dilute Autoglym All Purpose Cleaner, wipe clean and then sprayed with a satin black heat resistant fireplace paint.

I used the same procedure on my old '02 Vogue without any problems at all.

20 months on and I've repainted the back box on ours. My originally applied Hammerite High Heat (Matt Black) spray was fine but for the odd small silver bare patch appearing through the black (not flaking paint almost as though it had rubbed off in areas).

The Satin black might look a better finish though, hopefully.

So I washed down the back box with a diluted APC and a cotton cloth, dried it and then patch repaired the small shiny bare parts with the original Hammerite High Heat spray before applying a good coat of this Halfords Satin Black spray (almost a full tin used) @ £7.50/500 ml

As I've put one good coat over a good base layer of Hammerite Matt black I'm wondering if I'll need to do a second coat (although I bought 2 tins anyway):

If the suspension is up on high mode - make sure you leave a door open as the suspension will not drop if a door (or I think the tailgate) is open.

I have to say that if you plan to go under your FF without placing axle stands ( even for a 2 second job) you are mad. If that 'one in a million' event of a bag blowing happens when your under, the consequences could be serious.

YES its a door not tailgate needs to be open.
