Discs n Pads - How to check them?

Sorry if this is a stupid question:

Can 'one' conduct an informed visible check as to what life is left in FFRR brake discs and pads by means of a visible inspection of a car when the car is not jacked up, not up on a ramp and is merely sitting on a car park?

A salesman, as opposed to checking the FSH to find out when/ if the brakes had been done, professed to have physically checked them on my behalf the other day, all within in a couple of minutes and, as anticipated, reported back to me that the discs and pads were A1 and would no way need replacing within 6 months... it sounded to me like First Class BS? Confused

I would say you could carry out a visual check of your own and if they don't have rust and or ridges then there's no reason why they would need to be replaced.

Is this a car that you're looking to buy?

I was but not any more... was given a detailed appraisal of the condition of the discs n pads and it seemed implausible that the sales person could give such a quick appraisal on a car when the wheels were likely planted on tarmac... I ask the question so as to restore my faith in the integrity of the sales industry and for my future knowledge/ reference.

You can check the pads visually if you look closely through the wheels.....obviously only the outer pads though Laughing Stolen / Gone: 2006MY Supercharged LPG Autobiography - Zambezi Silver with Sand/Jet/Jet Oxford Leather.....

As above you can easily check the condition of the discs and outer disc pad simply by kneeling down beside the wheels.
The inner pads no, but the condition of the outer pad is a reasonable indicator as to the condition of the inner pad... most of the time, although not always.
If you want a definitive answer as to condition of discs and pads you really need to take the wheels off.

If there is no groove/Lip on the edge of the disk, then they are pretty new. Experience will let you know how many thousands of miles it takes to wear then down. If new pads have say 10mm depth on them, a visual will again let you know what % of life is left. As above, only the outer pad is visible. All rule of thumb, but it is good initial indication of the life left in the brakes.
I would think a FFRR mechanic would be pretty accurate giving it a visual.... But a salesman, well, maybe if he does know his stuff. Thumbs Up Previously..
