I would say you could carry out a visual check of your own and if they don't have rust and or ridges then there's no reason why they would need to be replaced.

I was but not any more... was given a detailed appraisal of the condition of the discs n pads and it seemed implausible that the sales person could give such a quick appraisal on a car when the wheels were likely planted on tarmac... I ask the question so as to restore my faith in the integrity of the sales industry and for my future knowledge/ reference. |

You can check the pads visually if you look closely through the wheels.....obviously only the outer pads though Stolen / Gone: 2006MY Supercharged LPG Autobiography - Zambezi Silver with Sand/Jet/Jet Oxford Leather..... |

As above you can easily check the condition of the discs and outer disc pad simply by kneeling down beside the wheels.

If there is no groove/Lip on the edge of the disk, then they are pretty new. Experience will let you know how many thousands of miles it takes to wear then down. If new pads have say 10mm depth on them, a visual will again let you know what % of life is left. As above, only the outer pad is visible. All rule of thumb, but it is good initial indication of the life left in the brakes.
