Spring cleaning...when it finally arrives

Decided to have a go at cleaning the interior this morning and thought I'd share a few tips.

If you have an electric toothbrush and have an old brush head it's amazing how effective this can be on the door panels, especially the tops along by the window operators. With some patience, fairy liquid or leather cleaner and a small bowl of luke warm water, a clean towel or kitchen paper the results have been amazing.

My panels are parchment and so the difference from dirty to clean is quite striking. I did the same with my Bentley a few years back and did the entire interior little by little and the end result was an interior that looked like new. When I first bought the Bentley the interior already looked pristine, but if you're one for detail and want to return the interior to the factory loom then over time amazing results can be achieved.

The trick with doing this with a tootbrush or nail brush is that its essential to keep wiping over the surface with a clean cloth and to rinse the brush in the bowl, changing the water every now and again. Especially so if you're using a cleaning solution on the leather which needs to be kept dry and should never be flooded. I used Connolly leather cleaner, 12 parts to 1 of water for this.

I toyed with the idea of swapping the existing steering wheel with a brand new one as many have done on here, but thought I'd try the leather cleaner and spent about 45 minutes on it and again the wheel now looks really fresh although it could never look like the new ones, but isn't far off.

You only have to look a the kitchen paper when you wipe the dirt away to see how much grime accumulates over the years.

I was reading a post about cleaning the headlining and depending on the types of mark on it you might get away with some duct tape which you will need to press firmly over the dirty area and remove quickly. Repeat a few times and without making the area at all bare the mark may come off and you could be pleasantly surprised.

Cracking advice. Will give that a go this weekend on my ivory door cards.

Re the headlining, I've always used Vanish on a damp cloth.......perfect every time.

Even better if you have a car attachment for your vacuum cleaner which has a small brush that will get rid of the dust and suck it away. Miele do a good one.

Well it depends what results you want at the end of the day.

However you need to just wait tip she's at the hairdressers then she'll never know...
