Its only taken me 3 months but I finally parted with my old P38 yesterday, was a fairly uneventful period of ownership but just wasnt sure it was going to last......... Now on the hunt for a replacement. Have spent hours looking at various cars on the net this last while but until the old one was gone couldnt do anything. I'm not particularly bothered whether its a petrol or diesel, as its a second car for getting out when we get snow and possibly a bit of off road when work needs me off the beaten track. There are a couple that be grateful for any comments (or if anyone knows them).

Quite like this one, black interior is the only issue and alhtough mileage highish it does sound like its been well cared for and maintained.

This one been about for ages and again dark interior not ideally what I was after.

Live way up north and all these are quite a distance away so its a bit of a gamble and slightly scared that I buy a lemon. The old P38 came from Oxford but it was a lot less money so didnt feel quite so bad.

Any comments/suggestions be much appreciated.

The one with the black interior does look nice,good price (pre haggle..) i notice the plate on it is the same as the shop/business it is parked outside,this suggests to me it is/was the owners personal car and to me that seems to back up the claim of being his fathers/well looked after etc. I would get on the phone and ask some genneral questions to get a feel for it..

When all is said and done,we would all want a clean,well looked after and as cheap a purchase price as possible...this could well fit that ideal.

I have an ivory interior, and even though I don't have kids, or a pet (or any friends ) and keep my car nice, you do have to stay on top of keeping the leather looking clean.

If you are using it as more of a workhorse, I'd say get a darker interior.

The first blue car looks tidy, and is also a facelift, with the better touch screen sat nav and the better hi-fi.

Earlier ones are based on BMW sound and sat nav etc, so later upgrades from X5's can be fitted.

Pro's and cons to me.

I bought an earlier one, as I like the BMW stuff.

If you aren't going to be upgrading stuff like that, I'd say get the later facelift one, if all else is equal.

You may need to drive 2 or 3 to know whats good and bad about each though, so if you are travelling from afar, perhaps look at 2 or 3 in the same area.

Thanks all - I'm off to call about the black one, I do have dogs - 5 cocker spaniels so maybe the dark interior a better option........ My everyday car (new volvo v40 that feels like it runs on fresh air, never below 60mpg and on a run easy 70mpg+) has a light leather interior so yes probably one of these is enough to try and keep clean.

The lighter interiors do look better, however i went for a black interior as the kids will mangle an ivory one.

The black on black looks like a nice car. Good luck with the search. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thankfully avoided kids, doing my bit for the planet! tried calling the black/black with 148k but its business number and must be on holiday today. Will try tomorrow. That one kind of coming out on top just now as it all points to a genuine car. Any thoughts on what to haggle too, is £5800 a bit cheeky? Knowing my luck its probably sold already.......

The damage repair gives you a good haggling point!

I know but its been for sale for months and months and first time it was listed it was supposed to be in the Orkney Isles, when you check the tel no its not a local code to us either and buildings in pics are not right for up here - just too may things that dont stack up. Pity though.

However it could all be a big fib and the car has pressure problems: independent inspection needed.
Note the dashboard brown mark too: that would need sorting.
It could be either the steal of the century or a money pit

Just looked an AA inspection would be about £345 - could be the way to go, have asked garage for more info and see what comes back from them and then decide if an inspection is worth shelling out for. All good advice - thanks again guys.

Finally got someone to speak too - no negotiation on price at all, this is what they took it in at - their workshop says its just the sensor, although why not just fix it.......... No tax and MOT'd till Sept and 3 previous owners, unwilling to let me contact last owner........ Think I'll leave this one.
