The oil in my D2 TD5 is still pretty fresh looking after thousands of miles? If there was a lot of old oil residue in the sump I can see it, but other than that I can't see why it would discolour so quickly?

It does go black rather quick in a diesel, but if you put a couplr of drops on your finger tips and rub then together it shouldn't leave a black mark, it should be a golden colour

We don't really like Shields as a dealer much apart from the guys in the parts department who are fantastic.

The guys in sales don't give a toss, the girls on service are polite enough but don't have a clue and the workshop foreman who I've dealt with a couple of times treats you like an idiot and thinks he's god almighty.

We do everything to our own cars apart from the 2012 which is due it's first service next month. It's either going to be Taggarts or Shields. We've never used Taggarts before and haven't really had an excuse to fault Shields during the service work they've done for us in truth.

I was looking round the new L405's they've got outside in a pair of old jeans and trainers the other day whilst picking up parts. One of the salesman saw me getting out of the P38 and wandering over to it. Guy didn't even say Hello, or can I help you or anything similar. Just rolled his eyes and walked past. Obviously doesn't think peasants in P38's are ever going to be able to afford one. Really annoys me.

Any time I've been in there the, "salesmen", if you can call them that, have NEVER approached me, or even acknowledged my presense for that matter! How they stay in their jobs continues to defy me!

I have always used Taggarts , wild horses wouldn't drag me back to Shields .

Here in the US, we don't really have this whole "stamps in the book" thing.
When buying a used LR, you can opt to pay $1000-$2000 more for a "Certified Used Land Rover", available only from LR dealers.
There's a 140-point inspection they do, and presumably fix any items they find.
Alternatively, you can take the vehicle to an indy shop with appropriate computers & pay them $100 to check all the computers.
For another $100, most indies will take a look at general service items, too.

Personally, I change the juices immediately after purchase, after Mr. Indy does the computer thing.
